Why is it that we don't have a flat tax rate across all income levels.
I know common sense isn't common, but this seems too simple to have flat tax unless I'm missing something.

Because a certain group wouldn't be able to complain that another group wasn't paying their fair share.

10% across the board and if the government can’t be run on that tax “revenue,” start cutting.

Several republican presidential candidates have run on this. They did not even get the republican nomination. I personally think it’s a great idea.

As much as I would like to have a 10% flat rate I don't see how it would work. The vast majority of the tax collected comes from those paying much higher rates.

A federal sales tax would bring in more revenue. Everyone spends money but not everyone earns a taxable income.

Overall the percentage of taxes to income is just above 10%

It doesn't matter if it is flat tax, income tax or any other of the multitude of taxes we give it is never enough.

Problem is the government does not spend wisely. All they do is spend, spend, and spend with no accountability.

Yes. You make $2,400 a year or $2.4 million. Same 10%. No deductions, no refunds. Everyone has skin in the game.

We don’t have a tax revenue issue. We have a spending issue. We can never tax ourselves enough to cover the spending. We already run a deficit and nobody cares. May as well lower the tax rate and make everyone pay out of principle.

(Personally, I think the Fair Tax is better than a flat tax, but I’d settle for a low flat tax. Neither will ever replace what we have now, so it’s all a pipe dream.)

I would be 100% on board with a 10% or even 15% flat tax rate.

And I agree the federal government blows money out both pant legs. We give way too much foreign aid and subsidies imo

We have a spending problem not a income tax problem

CPAs wouldn’t like it, but I would be all about a 10-15% flat tax.

The studies I’ve read say it needs to be 20-23% to make it work

That would be my problem...agree to a 10% flat tax and how long before it became 12, then 15 then 20 and on and on it goes.

Because 10% of a persons salary that makes $20K a year would be hurt more than a person who makes $200K a year. I just wish they would quit spending my tax money on stupid stuff
