So, recently i heard something odd that i had never heard before, that being that there are small loopholes when it is allowed to shoot deer outside of the normal hunting season. The way the guy doing it explained it was that they were destroying his crop of wheat and so he was shooting them and leaving them lay. This bothered me on a few grounds, the easiest being they are being shot out of season. Second, this is a game animal and he was simply shooting and leaving lay therefore in my mind wasting a game animal which i have heard stories has gotten folks thrown in jail if done during a season. Can someone help me understand this if it is something possible? It is happening on property near where i hunt so it just makes me curious. I think he said he can based on them being a nuisance destroying his livelihood of his crop. Thanks for any feedback!!

Farmers do it all the time. It is their livelihood they are trying to protect.
Btw, this is by no means a "loophole".

technically he isn't hunting out of season. and when you are shooting them like this, you are required to leave them laying. you then start getting infraction after another if you go move them. I have no idea why you are required to leave them laying, maybe to make it easier to distinguish when someone is actually protecting their livelihood , or using it as an excuse to shoot deer is my best guess.

They are not supposed to let it lay where they shot it. "Sec. 43.155. DISPOSITION OF WILDLIFE. (a) The holder of a permit issued under this subchapter or a person designated by Section 43.154(c)(4) who kills wildlife under the authority of the permit shall dispose of the carcass by donating it to a charitable institution, a hospital, a needy person, or any other appropriate recipient."

Yes, we must keep in mind that deer are only seen as trophies by a very small percentage of the general population.

I mean, if you had a pile of money and literally a herd of deer just came up and started mucnhing on it, you wouldn't kill them?
If that poor guy processed every animal he killed for eating his crop he wouldn't have time to be a farmer

In farming areas, LE can be very supportive of farmers in their quest to protect their means to earn a living.
