So, I am getting ready to barrel up a Remington 700 action that I had LRI do a Remage truing on. It has a .223 bolt face and I plan on getting a 6X45 barrel to put on it. But, because it will be a Remage set-up and because I got a good deal on a bolt with a .473" bolt-face, I am thinking I want something that I can poke out a bit further with. I want to stay "small" caliber as this will also be the gun that I hand to the wife and nephews when we head out for deer, hogs, and yotes. I am not going to be doing any benchrest matches. I just like the idea of a low recoil round that is "inherently accurate" and will feed reliably from a standard .308 family magazine.
So, with that in mind, would you go with a 6mm GT or a 6.5X47L?

6.5x47 Lapua is the rifle I'm currently dreaming of.
Honestly, I have no experience with either and still a huge newb to long range but I've just had a nearly arbitrary fascination with the caliber. Just seems awesome and those who do shoot it seem to have great results. One comment that's stuck from alot of 6.5x47 shooters is that they all universally seem to say it's a really easy caliber to reload and get great results out of. Again, with my limited experience, that was the biggest selling point of me. My local range record is held by a 6.5x47, who recently beat out the other 6.5x47.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

6gt brass offerings are kinda meh imo but it's got a solid following so far. Downside is it was primarily designed to run varget which is not easy to come by at the moment.
6.5x47L is stupid consistent and easy to load for. Imo it works best in the 123-136 weight range bullets.

Sorry, man. I won't have a Creedmoor anything in my safe. Nothing against them, I just don't like "mainstream" chamberings. Same reason I won't own a 30-06, .270, or 7mm Rem Mag.

What about a 6x47L, I really like mine? Is your .473 bolt a small firing pin bolt, if not you will more than likely have to have it bushed to run the Lapua cartridge.

6.5X47L - - Barrel life in any 6mm is always a concern

I was at Rifles Only and shot the week long train up for the Brawl match and then was a range officer for the match. The main rounds of the top shooters was 6mm. Lots of 6 BR, 6 GT, 6x47 Lapua, and 6mm Creedmoor. Most matches are won from about 600 yards and in. If you cater your rifle for that sweet spot, the 6mm will dominate. They are faster, flatter shooting with the same or less wind drift than the 6.5's. Barrel life is only a small concern for most of these shooters. Most shooters have multiple barrels spun up at the same time. Think of barrels as extra tire sets on a race car. I know several shooters who bring extra barrels and barrel vise to change the barrel if needed. And NRL (National Rifle League) has an onsite trailer to handle a change quickly. I'm thinking about getting back in the game, and I'll go 6mm CM with multiple barrels and run a shorter barrel for the compactness and ease of shooting. The 6 CM is a little hotter than the other small BR, GT, and x47 rounds, and you can go with a shorter barrel to get a little more speed.
But.... I shot a 6.5x47 L, and it is a great overall choice. Stupid low ES.

The br based stuff have gained popularity because they are typically easy to load for and fairly consistent for about 2000rds. The creed isn't when the common 4350 burn rates are used. It can be if certain powders are ran.
