7 months??? That's a walk!! Time to retire? I have just over a year left and wish I had not gone to the military vs college. Getting into the job market isn't going to be easy....

I have a BA in Criminal Justice. I have been in law enforcement to almost 23 years. I don't see why so many say don't get a Criminal Justice Degree if you plan on being in law enforcement. My department has incentive for levels of education. Not every degree will get you the incentive pay. If you truly want a career in law enforcement I see no problem with the degree directed at your career goals.

A minor in Spanish would probably open more LEO opportunities. Bi-lingual is a big plus.

coffee spelled backwards is eeffoc. I don't give eeffoc until I have my morning coffee.

Thanks for the input. They're coming home this weekend to refuel and for #2's 19th birthday, I'm going to have him read this thread for some discussion.

Thanks
Charlie

Not exactly the path you asking about but the Coast Guard puts most of its people through law enforcement training. They are DHS not DOD. 4 years Coastie then 4 years free college if he wants it, then the sky’s the limit.

An accounting degree, then apply for federal job with the IRS as a Revenue Agent, then go to the Criminal Division. Once in Criminal the retirement time accrues at the rate of 1.5 years for each year of service, or 20 years equals 30.

Here's the list of majors eligible for direct enlistment to Army CID it's a good list of alternative studies if you think Criminal Justice is too confining.
Bachelor's degree or higher in: Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, Computer Science, Computer Forensics, Digital Forensics, Legal Studies, Accounting, Finance, Psychology or Biology

Just about every Fed investigating agency, except Border Patrol, requires a degree. Even what is now called ICE, but used to be Custom's Office of Investigations. Fed (Special Agent GS-1811) is the way to go. 20 years of gun totin' time and age 50 you get to retire. Mandatory age is 57. Some sort of admin degree or accounting would be what I would shoot for if I was doing it again. Veteran status may help you get signed on, but once you are hired it won't help much and will be resented by many of your peers.

The 1811 field is highly competitive, the direct enlistment for Army CID, is currently one of the easiest paths to get in.

Army CID is a great military career path however it's not offered as direct enlistment. It's only open to current, in service soldiers.

My grandfather was CID & Army Intelligence and after he retired from active duty it was an easy path to GS job.

Army (any military time) time would count towards retirement from Federal law enforcement. I went into the Navy, for 10 years 9 months and some days, at 18 and retired at age 50 with 32 years of federal service split between, the Navy, the Border Patrol (3) and Customs Investigations (17). Fed LEO pay scales are pretty darn good now compared to when I went in.
