I worked in a Secondary Reference Lab for over 12 years. Most accuracy problems with digital or analog calipers is induced by the user. I can see that but one step further , Ill assume, you guys dont use harbor freight or the like calipers? We calibrated several brands but they all met with the same fate if the did not meet spec's. The "salvage bin".

I use calipers for a living and I don’t trust digital.

I build various stuff and machine some things on my mill and metal lathe that requires between thousants of an inch and 1/8" is close enough cause we gonna weld it anyway tollerances.... I have Starrets and Mititoyos in analog (calipers and a ton of dial indicators) and digital plus a couple of cheaper digitals from auto parts houses. Which one I use depends on the degree or precision required for the job at hand.

As far as digital calipers go, Mitutoyo's are hard beat. They plenty good for measuring case length and such. But for bullet diameters micrometers are better.

My dial calipers have never failed to work.
