Here's one that should bring a very broad range of responses but who knows.

Just two rules...

1. Only one response allowed. The idea is to discover that one thing that others are looking for most in their next new deer rifle so anything related to a given deer rifle is acceptable. It can be a brand, caliber, length of the barrel or whatever your next deer rifle must have in order for you to purchase it but it must be the single most important thing if you are to buy it.

2. No replies to earlier responses. The goal here IS NOT to learn what others have to say about anyone's opinion.

My next new deer rifle must...

have a wood stock. Call me old fashioned or just plain old but I love seeing the grain and luster in a nice wood stock.

My next deer rifle must...be a semi-auto. My son is a little recoil shy, and my wife is starting to get into hunting and she is recoil shy. IMO the semi-auto mitigates more recoil than reduced recoil loads do.

My next new deer rifle must... NOT feel like it needs to be subjected to some ridiculously unnecessary "break-in" procedure before being ready to go hunt.

My next new deer rifle must...

...already be in my safe.

I have four that I will own until the grave. All bolt actions, and I have a connection with each. One of them may accompany me underground.

Needless to say, I'm very happy with all of them.

...be one of the AR pattern guns.

I don't get to hunt much anymore, so no need to buy anything new for that pursuit, but if I were shopping, it would be an AR.

My next deer rifle will be more bad a$$ than my current one which is pretty bad a$$ that will weigh about 7.5 lbs in an appropriate length to wear a suppressor in a deer stand. No where on it will it say savage. It will shoot .5” or I will not keep it. It will be capable of making surgically placed shots in the face

My next new deer rifle must... be able to cleanly kill a deer at 900 yards.

It'd be nice if it could do it with me as the shooter!
