Take a better pic of the motor plate. I’ll do a little “light stalking” on the history of the motor itself. Stalking, creeping,,,same difference....

I think it's part of a tumbler. That was a suggestion from the lapidary board, if so, there is something missing. The motor drives the gear, but nothing else moves I believe it is a rock tumbler for polishing rocks. It is missing the drum.
Funny thing about getting older: Your eyesight starts getting weaker but your ability to see through people's BS gets much better.

Looks a lot like a dryer tumbler. I just replaced the belt and a wheel on ours and got a pretty good look at it..

Rock tumbler. Friend Dad (geologist) had one similar and he used a tire and 2 pieces of plywood to cover center hole. Filled 1/3 with sand and rocks to be polish and bolted covers on with all thread. He used 5.70 x 16 tires. Emerson is a elec motor company. His dad also had a diamond dust lapidarian wheel, rock cutting wheel Diamond dust, gold nuggets, silver, and mercury. Awesome description! I might have to give it a try!
