What do you think?

For me:

.40 S&W. Coming in just behind the 10mm (not by much) and packaged in a handgun the same size as a 9mm while only dropping a couple rounds in capacity to a 9mm. What’s not to love?

30-06: it’s just boring. Very boring. But, it does everything from launching 110’s at 3500fps to being a decent mid range rifle to shooting 220 grain thumpers. It just works. In a boring way.

300BLK popcorn

Ballistics aside it hammers pigs out of my 8” SBR at 150 yards and under. Everyone hates it, but I love it.

Don’t worry, when the inevitable “most overrated cartridges” thread comes around, that was gonna be on my list clap

Not everyone. I am a big fan. I was shooting .300 Whisper well before the Blackout was even a dream. In my opinion, JD Jones and SSK missed the boat by not licensing the Whisper to more companies. When the almost identical Blackout came around, I jumped on the wagon due to the wide selection of ammo. The Blackout is a great AR round and short-barrel round. My Whisper was a 12” barreled T/C Encore pistol. Shot a number of deer with it. Have a Blackout AR currently (Wilson Combat barrel) and plan to buy a Blackout pistol barrel for my Encore (Whisper barrel was lost in a burglary).

3030, 357 mag, and 270 winchester. All cartridges that used to kill basically anything, now none of them can hit a barn from inside, and if you did luck out and hit the barn, the bullet would bounce off....

I'm going with 7mm-08. It's been completely overshadowed by the 6.5 Creedmoor to the extent rifle makers are replacing the 7mm-08 with the Creedmoor in their standard short action offerings.

577 Tyrannosaur - Too cool of a name not to be more popular. Also makes for some entertaining video.

On a more serious note, the 7mm-08 does not nearly get enough love for everything that it offers.

Fully agree, when I am hunting where shots will be under 125 yards and that is a lot of my hunting the 357 is what I have, unless the wife is hunting with it

I don't think the 3030 or .270 is underrated. I hardly ever hear either cartridges talked down. They may be under appreciated, but not underrated.

If this thread makes one thing clear, it’s that many people do not understand what underrated means.

I'd have to say .260 Remington.

We should add the definition.

having more importance, value, skill, power, etc., than people recognize:

Synonyms for underrated

underestimate
underprice
undervalue
belittle
depreciate
discount
minimize
underprize

264 Win Mag would be my choice, next would be the Rem 7 mag. Most factory loads pale in comparison to what some good hand loads can produce. There's allot better actions out there than when these rounds hit the market and some really good bullets. Both of these rounds are extremely versatile for a hand loader. As a hunting round they cover most needs and for the long range gang they give you plenty of case capacity to move the longer, higher BC bullets.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.
