Just got a new Burris drop tine 4.5-14x42 for my son's 17hmr..brand new and has some moisture almost like greasy stuff around the little screw on bottom of ocular eye bell..I know it's not a top of the line scope bit this doesn't seem normal. I have 8 scopes and none ever had this. should I return this?

As we mentioned this is normal, and nothing to be concerned about. The excess oil typically collects in those areas. The screws on the eyepiece are part of the assembly process and depending on model there can be what looks to be an empty screw hole, this is where we purge the scopes with nitrogen.

Ok I understand the aluminum housing will be coated. But this is only around the area of that screw like it is leaking..and what is the purpose of the small screw on bottom of eyepiece bell?

Hello,

That is no cause for alarm. When scopes are packaged they are coated in oil. If the packager puts a little too much it can seep for a while but does not cause any issue with the scope. This is normal.

Brand new from midwayusa.com. The scope has moisture sort of greasy texture substance around bottom of ocular eye bell. Seems to be coming from where the little screw is.

Surely Burris will fix it or replace it.
