Living in the country has its fair share of random dogs running around. I’ve got 3-4 that are often unwanted visitors tearing up stuff around my house. Trash, shoes, anything they can get ahold of. Had things walk off since they showed up a few months ago. Last resort is shooting them. Anything I can do to keep them away?

fence would work for most. They dug under it on the side they come from.

Probably BS but I've heard chili powder will keep them away. This is probably more used for your porch or something though. Not your whole yard.

They also make motion activated sprinklers.

May have to resort to a tennis racket if talking to the owner doesn’t work then.

I know where they belong and the pettiness in me is going to go open his trash can the next time they end up in mine. I’ve heard all kinds of ways but need something that works. 3 sides are fenced off just need to keep them from coming in.

So far water hasn’t worked. They are outside dogs and always in it.

Yep. Stop talking about it and take care of it. It’s the only thing that works.

We bought a restaurant sized box of red chili powder ad sprinkled the flower beds to keep cats out of them. I also made up some mud balls with pea sized gravel and dirt and let them dry. Either throw or use a sling shot. You do not have to hit them, just have it hit in the front of them, they break up like a grenade and pepper the dog. Using a Whamo slingshot about golf ball sized worked best for me.
They leave little evidence.

First thing I would try is the neighborly approach. Look your neighbor in the eye and tell him his dogs are causing problems on your place and see where that goes.

Red Rider BB gun should work. Pop em a few times and they’ll get the message. Next level would be Sheridan pump air rifle. I used to use it on bothersome neighborhood dogs. Neighbor loaned me one once and I found it so useful that I bought one. 3 pumps would sting the dog. 5 pumps would usually penetrate at short range. 8 pumps would kill. I rarely went to 8, but for special occasions I did.

The 8 pumps would not cause a DRT, so they could make it home before they went terminal.

Once upon a time I left the back door, heading for the garage to drive to work. I had on a suit and tie and had the garbage bags to leave for pickup. A big aggressive dog was right there, growling, showing teeth, and ears laid back and slowly moving toward me. Very threatening. I dropped the bags, stepped into the house and grabbed the Sheridan. Pumped to 8, went back out, shot the dog between the eyes, bagged him and left him with the other bags. Or...maybe I didn’t do that. You decide.

Try beating them with a stick or shooting them with a BB gun before you have to kill them. I’m fair, if I know who owns them I’ll talk to them about the problem before they disappear.

Well if I spoke Spanish I could probably get somewhere but I’m sure he speaks English just won’t when I’ve tried. Sheriff told me to just Shoot them. Known problem house and at one point had a shoot out with police. Trying to keep from it escalating to that point.

Call animal control first and if that don’t work you know what to do...

Usually if we get dogs coming through, not harming anything but acting like "they're passing through" I send some rounds at their feet . Sometimes throwing a stick at them will work. I also try to get close to them if they have collars and I Will call the owner
But if they do harm to me or my property, lethal force will be used.

Never, if anything happens to the neighbors dogs you will probably get a visit from the sheriffs office.
