Saw a Tremor yesterday at a lot in Fredericksburg, I had some time so I pulled over and took it for a spin.
This one has the 4:30 gearing which I'm told is the one to go with in that engine.
To start....I don't see what the hoopala is about the tremor package....Same thing as an a FX4 sans the low speed cruise control/rock crawl mode and a mild lift kit, but does have a cheap looking black wheel combo w/35" tires. I am not impressed and will order a FX4 and do the lift/tires myself.
Got in the truck and took off. Salesman told me that they are seeing 14-15 mpg avg with these 7.3's and the truck ( this one had more miles on it ) mileage gage confirmed what he told me. He said a lot of guys were buying the 7.3 liter ( Rural dealership ) to avoid the cost and maintenance of the diesel.
Truck felt the same as the one I drove with the 3:55's. Plenty of low end power taking off from a roll. Acceleration was good, but when you stomped on the accelerator......it became apparent quickly you were not in a diesel anymore. My diesel will flat out move, this truck is not a slouch but will not throw you back in your seat either.
Truck ride was again, quite a bit smoother than my diesel. And I did appreciate the noise reduction over the diesel, it did have a throaty V-8 sound but was not obnoxious.
When its time, I will more than likely move into a 7.3 liter....but i'm not quite ready yet to give up the raw power and acceleration of my diesel, so I'm gonna milk impracticality for just a little bit longer.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Does the FX4 have lockers? That’s a big deal, to me.

Does the FX4 have lockers? That’s a big deal, to me. In the rear it does. The Tremor has a rear locker and a limited slip up front. To me, the limited slip up front and those chincey tires it comes with is not worth the $3k upgrade. Hell the level on a ford is only a $400 aftermarket part.

I get 12.1 MPG in my 6.2L Raptor. I don't baby it at all, but I also don't drive like a mad man everywhere either. 14-15MPG isn't too bad I guess. That is about what I got in my Ecoboost when I had it. I think it was right around 16MPG.

Dad had an '85 ford single cab long bed 4x4 with a posi in front and rear. I sure wish I was old enough to drive it before he sold it It makes me wonder what he must of been thinking or doing, but they had enough stories about getting it stuck lol

It's not driven like it's stolen, but not babied either. The work raptor with his flatbed gets 10.5 though, but it also has a heavy front bumper.

My understanding which is probably wrong but it’s an elocker up front and rear just like raptor. Not a limited slip that takes several rotations and gravel and mudd tossing before it kicks in(que chevy lover hate)

I like a limited slip in the rear so it’s more useful for every day driving. That’s all.

I like a limited slip in the rear so it’s more useful for every day driving. That’s all. I guess I can live with that. I was waiting for the “front lockers are better since that where the weight is” or some other dumb argument about how the front is the first to into a mud hole so it needs the most traction. The Ford, uses electric lockers, so front and rear lockers are nice

I have a Electronic lockers in my truck currently and had one in my F-150. I personally prefer the Chevy limited slip...its a pain having to Turn off traction control, lock the rear axle and engage 4 wheel drive.
chevy I would just hit the traction control and go...never had any issues.
But, the FX4 truck with the Axle locked in 4Hi is pretty capable offroad for anything you should be driving a diesel 3/4 ton truck thru. Worlds better than my 02' 7.3 4x4. That thing off road was only slightly better than a 1/2 ton in 2 wd.

Man, pushing 1 button, turning a knob, and then pulling a knob is a lot of work

Chevy your tire literally has to spin like 5 revolutions to get it to kick on. Hell to the no.

] That makes zero sense.... you literally have to change out rear leafs to put a metal bed on it.......... Maybe they did have to do with that. But when your dad does a lot of work in the bottom of the canyons and only has one leg, he needs something that is very 4x4 capable and something where he can reach tools without climbing in the back. That bed was custom made, and raptor beds sell at a premium too btw. Btw, that flatbed raptor rides much better than the other raptor.
