Hey guys, this is my first post on the forum, but Ive used the forum for months now. Me and my brother love it, we actually have bought a couple guns off of here, Ive also learned alot about hunting from this forum as well. The reason Im asking now, is Im located near canyon lake, San Marcos area, or about 45 minutes south of austin. I have a little firewood business to make some money and am looking to get some oak wood fairly cheap, about $130 a cord. Im hoping someone can point me in the right direction for this. If someone can I would be happy to buy you a beer or 20.

welcome

are you looking to buy a cord of oak for $130? or sell for $130?

good luck buying oak for $130/cord ... going rate around Austin is $300-375 ... 1/2 cord $150-175

and if selling for $130/cord, I'll take several

Sounds like he is looking for oak at $130 so he can sell it at a profit.

First, consider starting a little tree trimming and removal service allowing you to further profit while sourcing the wood required for your little firewood venture. Target the greater Austin area with digital marketing promoting the eco-friendly lifecycle of your tree and firewood services. Make sure to mention all firewood is harvested from sustainable sources using uber-green Tesla powered chainsaws and wood is manually split by vegan-powered, thoughtful humans.

This strategy will offset the Austinite’s nagging conscience as they partake in mind-altering rituals around their backyard fire pit. Good luck in your new venture and welcome to the OT.

Too bad so far - I have several down oaks that I want cleaned out. One is maybe 5 or 6' across, and maybe 20' tall trunk. Fell over a couple of years ago, and a bigger job than I wanted to handle. Unfortunately, several hours from San Marcos.

Personally I was surprised anyone was attempting to sell firewood in that area for the obvious reasons you point out but I suspected the OP was actually trying to source wood for Franklin’s or another area BBQ joint as many of them use post oak. If not, and the OP was actually trying to sell firewood, I offered up a strategy that would help resonate with the area mindset, as well as give the backyard fire pit or BBQ owner some ammo when confronted by angry neighbors.

After seeing the OP’s much more articulate post on TFF, I wouldn’t be surprised if the OP is Aaron Franklin or one of the many area pit masters attempting to source wood for the pit... Aaron, love your videos... Welcome to the OT...

Make a lot more money by selling one piece of wood split 4 ways, with the cut side out for $5.99. Yankees buy that stuff up fast on a cold day!

Yes. A cord of firewood should have three 16” face cords. Suppliers like to cut 24” lengths so that only two face cords are needed in a cord. Less work, but it doesn’t fit all fireplaces and it’s fewer pieces of firewood. My fire pit likes 16” pieces, plus they’re easier to carry for us Olds.

For the math - 3 x 16 = 48”; 2 x 24 = 48”. A cord is 48” high x 48” deep x 96” wide.

I can offer oak firewood. It still looks like a big oak tree lying on it’s side, so bring a chainsaw or two and a serious work ethic.
