I thought NICS for 4473 only gave you three responses and not data used in the check. Funny thing about getting older: Your eyesight starts getting weaker but your ability to see through people's BS gets much better.

Even if stopped by a GW or LEO and one of your group turned out to be a felon or have a warrant, it would be on that person, not you. Are you going to run background checks on everyone in the group to make sure they don't have any past felonies or warrants? Sounds like this guy is being upfront about his past. No conviction means he is not a felon.

Just cuz somebody you are hunting with is a knucklehead doesn't put you in harm's way. If he shoots over his limit, you don't get the ticket, either. On the other hand, maybe you just want to keep a low profile and/or favorable impression with the local law enforcement, which I would completely understand.
