If a crossbow is timed you should be good to go. Even though a bow may be a little out of time it can shoot well but just like a compound one in time will shoot better. You need a good short press for crossbows to time one. When you get a crossbow measure the axel to axel length and like other bow strings they will stretch some then slow down. As the strings/cables stretch the axel to axel lenght will grow, when mine grows 1/2 inch I replace the string and cables.

Kee your string/cables waxed and the rail lubed.

If you want to stay in the compounds, todays bows are faster at 55lbs than older compounds were at 80.

A lot of good xbows out there I would stay away from Barnett (cheap crap) JMO and everybody on Acherytalk. BTW that's a real good place to get info. Good luck. Oh and Ten Point Point is probably gonna be out of your price range.

I started out with a Barnett Recruit Terrain x bow, killed several deer with it and multiple pigs. Just like with anything if you practice and know your limitations with the equipment your using you will have success. I now have a Bear x bow and don’t see much difference between the two. I’m sure Ten Point makes a great product but I personally wouldn’t spend that kind of money.

My old Barnett Buck Commander shoots like a dream, never had any issues with it.

I currently own a camx , a tenpoint, a pse and an excalibur micro crossbows. they are all good shooters and I have killed deer with all 4 bows.
if I could only keep one it would definitely be the Excalibur, its lights out bullseye every shot out to 40 yards. It's easily dececocked with the cocking rope. you can change the string out without a bow press.

I'm gonna put a vote in for the CenterPoint Sniper 370. Coke County has 4 less deer over the last 2 years because of mine. All but 1 were through and through. The one that didn't pass through went in the lower neck and out through the top of the skull. None went more than 50 yards. Best bang for the buck on the market. Doesn't have a decocker on it, but get a decocking bolt or a cheap toss around target and you will be fine.

Damn crossbow has made me retire all my long guns. Its a lot more fun when they are close.

I also shoot a CenterPoint sniper 370. This was my first year to bow hunt killed nice doe, she ran about 70 yds. The Sniper is a good bow for the money.
