Seeing the tread on the ‘68 Remington got me to wondering about how Remington firearms are NOW. I know they hit a rough spot when Freedom Group bought them, but that was nearly 15 years ago.
I bought a Walmart special 700 ADL in 2016 or 2017 and have been thoroughly pleased.
So, anyone that has bought a new Remington in the last 5 or so years, what are your thoughts?
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

I bought a 700 ADL 223 varmint and a couple of 597s that all shoot great. I've heard Remmy had some intermittent quality issues but everything I've bought has been top notch.
I was wrong...on anything technical. Fitz............. is right, ya know............

"On February 17, 2014, Remington announced a plan to build a new state-of-the-art plant in Huntsville, Alabama. Remington decided to move two production lines from the Ilion, New York plant as a result of the fallout from the New York Safe Act, which restricted gun ownership."
And yet, there are those who bash Remington while taking pride in owning a firearm made by employees outside the U.S. who can't legally own what they produce.

We have already had this discussion, Dan. As I pointed out in that thread, your statement, "can't legally own what they produce" is patently false. Also, if you think that Remington moved their production from NY to AL as a result of the New York Safe Act and not to get away from the expensive union labor, you are falling for the hype. The Safe Act may have been a factor, but I can guarantee that production costs were the main driver. So, ultimately what happened is that they moved a bunch of equipment from NY to AL and then had a bunch of not-well-trained people start using that equipment. The result was a lot of hit-or-miss firearms being put out. They have worked out a lot of the kinks in the past couple of years, but as long as Remington is owned by a private equity firm they will never be willing to put in the effort (read $$) to build a truly great factory firearm.

I bet I have owned 30 of them over my life, never had a bad one. All have been great to shoot and have never failed in terms of manufacturing quality, I have personally induced my own issues by turning triggers down not having the stock torqued properly etc. I have 4 currently 1 older early 2,000 production and 3 all later RR prefix and all four shoot well. I have changed things such as stocks, triggers etc but it’s due to my own personal preference.
For all the hate, Remington sure is emulated a lot.. all the custom actions all borrow bits and pieces from the 700.
I also thing the 1100/1187 is some of the best automatic shotguns ever made, of course Benelli makes some really nice stuff but in terms of gas operated the 1100’s don’t beat ya up so bad after shooting it all day. Pulse the lines are really nice and slick

I bought my first Remington Rifle a couple months ago. The whole Freedom thing kept me away. I was looking for a light, suppressor ready factory bolt action 308 with a 16" barrel. The only configuration I found was Remington's Model Seven. I really liked the looks, it was exactly what I was looking for. My load development was opening a box of 150 Speer Gold Dot factory ammo and sighting in. It will shoot the first 3 rounds tight before it starts opening up due to the barrel profile. It's a perfect rig for suppressed hunting.

We have already had this discussion, Dan. As I pointed out in that thread, your statement, "can't legally own what they produce" is patently false. Yes, I remember how some reacted to my comment that raised the question if employees of foreign gun manufacturers enjoyed the same rights as American citizens. It seems awkward that any U.S citizen would need to be schooled on such, but there is no denying the US is the only country that provides its citizens with a right to keep and bear arms with no constitutional restrictions. Zero. Nada. Now if you would like to debate the need for other countries to place constitutional restrictions for gun ownership on their citizens, it might make for good discussion in the Gun Legislation topic area.

I had asked from one because I knew I could use it to hunt any game animal that lived in the Deep South. It has yet to fail me when taking deer, doves, squirrels, rabbits, and turkeys.

Remington is still in trouble. They are behind paying their bills to virtually every single supplier and all of their warranty centers. And yes I have seen the copy of the letter they sent out to their vendors.
