Battery powered power tools have come a long way, I’ll give you that...and it is nice not to have to worry about the cord. For most jobs it’s probably plenty to get you by. But others call for the big electric drill or gas powered edger, chain, or circular saw.

My neighbor got the battery power edger and weed eater and I’m smiling right now as I’m thinking of him out there using them. I don’t think there is any way he got the 40 volt.

Home Depot had the ryobi one on sale yesterday for $110.

Is the higher the volt the more strength for cutting purposes? I see everything from 20 volt to 80 volts. Anyone??

I have a few Ryobi tools, all battery powered. Rule of thumb is never to buy a Ryobi tool that has a spark plug. Just don’t do it.

Been there. Still have two attachments that use the .095 string. Surprised, they work just fine on my new electric trimmer. That was a big plus with the other attachments.

I've used the echo I believe 48 or 50v I think and it works great. Plenty of balls for any yard.

I have the Dewalt flexvolt , I put a Badger head on it. I use the plastic blades , beats the hell out of string.
I have the blower, hedge trimmer, chain saw , drills , saws all, circular saw and grinder. I has not been dissatisfied with any of these tools.

The voltage # is not that important on a drill but is on a weed eater.

Again, pick a brand and stick with it.

I have the EGO weed eater and like it. I also have a Stihl. I really like being able to pick up the electric and just go at it. No worries with storing over the winter either. There's a lot of torque in the electric motor. It does a great job. I agree that electric tools have come a long way.

Are the attachments interchangeable between brands?

Ok, I’ve been trying to ignore all the voltage talk but just can’t. The stated voltage on tool batteries is really just a way to identify that line of tools and batteries.

‘Battery voltage’ tells you nothing of the work the battery can do. Battery power is where the rubber meets the road. Battery power is measured in AH. That number tells you how much power you can use and how long the battery can provide that power.

Battery technology and size determines the AH rating. Lead acid batteries drain as you use them, the voltage drops slowly until the battery is discharged. They don’t provide the same power throughout the job. Lithium batteries provide full power/voltage right up to the point where they drop off line and need charging.

So, bear in mind that a good 18 volt battery could have more power and do more work than a poor 40 volt battery. Find the AH (ampere hour) rating on the battery to determine its ’size’.

No one ever replied to this question and its the most important one on this thread.

As a general rule, attachments for Stihl won’t fit Ryobi or Echo or others. That said, if the tool manufacturer makes more than one named tool (Poulan and Craftsman, for instance), those might interchange. I ran into that with a Poulan chainsaw. And some Harbor Freight might interchange with Ryobi, but that’s just a guess.

Electric is great if you have a small yard.
If you want power and coverage, go Echo.

A good yard man is better.

I bought a 40v last year at Lowe's. It will do my front and back yard and still have power. I'm happy with it except on how to reload the string. That took some cussing and discussing the first couple of times.
