Sometimes suicide is a permanent solution to a permanent problem. My uncle took his own life in his early 90’s. He had a painful terminal cancer. My FiL also had a horrible end of life cancer, and he would have ended it, but was too weak to reach the pistol, though he tried.

If you are going to kill yourself just don't take someone else with you.

Maybe I’m not good at it. Two times unsuccessfully.
One time I learned a valuable lesson. He shot himself in the head, went through his head and I heard bullet wiz by my head.

Still gives me the Willys.

Had a nephew. Left a family of four. Heard about it later.

Don’t do it in your house, car, or by hanging

Thought I had, talked to a girl for over 4 hours on the phone. She finally started making sense again as we talked and she had quit crying by the time we hung up. I called her aunt that lived about 2 blocks away around 4 AM after we hung up to go and check on her. Good thing she did as she had slit both wrists and was getting ready to go long ways as she was not bleeding out quick enough. Thankfully that she got some real help as she is married with several kids and grandkids now. This was over 35 years ago. I know many who have taken their own lives, family and friends. It just moves the problem from the person dying to the living left behind.

About 7 years ago I had a guy coming over on Sunday morning to pick up a hog trap. I usually go to church but the Lord told me to be a man of my word, the one coming was going to be a man of his word. It was a young man that showed up and I sensed that he was going through some troubles and I asked if I could pray over him. He said yes. During and after praying, he broke down and was sobbing like a baby. You see, he was going to commit suicide that morning but he remembered he made a promise to me to come buy a trap and so he decided to put it off until later that day. He gave his life to the Lord that day and still calls me from time to time.

My uncle did. He was a Pedro Pilot who was shot down and crashed twice. He lived with constant back pain that he could not escape even with the drugs. Finally one day he couldn't take it any longer...

That's pretty neat. No doubt that God puts you where you need to be, you just gotta do your part.

Yes, but the people that I saved didn’t really want to kill themselves. Most of them were on a bridge, a few had guns to their head. If they wanted to kill themselves they wouldn’t have waited until the police arrived. Watched a few blow their brains out, and one take the leap from 18 stories. We weren’t even there for that person, a body makes a unique sound when it hits the ground.

If you want to kill yourself, do it, do it away from your family and friends, preferably where the animals will eat you before you’re found. If you do it in your home where family or friends will find you, then you’re a selfish [censored].

My best friend, while in 5th grade did it in school, we talked right before it happened. Heard the shot. Gun to head in restroom. Still gets me.

Half Brother did also about 15 years ago. On a gun range in Arizona. Went to pick up the vehicle he did it in, saw part of his brain on the floor.

My brother in law car and garage thing.

I personally do not think it is a coward thing. Do I believe it is a non caring thing about who gets left behind? No, when things get so bad I feel in that mental state they are not able to rationalize the consequences after they are gone or the ripple effect. They look for peace to to end their pain. Again not selfish, it takes a brave person to go through with it, IMO.
Some people cannot handle life, or are chemically imbalanced.

Wrong to us, but have you been there? I do sympathize.

My wife's uncle did it just last month. Then, one of my daughter's friend's mom did it a few weeks ago, and a friend's daughter last week. I have a hard time understanding it. I just can't comprehend how they could put thier family through that.

I never thought my OP would uncover so many responses and the numbers of those who are apparently out there dealing with issues that could make them do such a thing.

I’ve lost around 6 guys I served with probably more I’ve quit counting from suicide a couple were pretty good friends, had an aunt kill herself, best friend in HS killed himself our junior yr, great uncle killed himself, wife’s mom killed herself. I have a hard time feeling any sympathy for any of them.

New update that just came in on the original story that started this thread. I just don’t get it.....Someone please help me understand why someone would do this? Was some terrible secret about to be exposed that he did not want his family to know about or did he kill his wife in a fit of rage and did not want his kids to have to deal with the aftermath?

I live less than 3 miles from where this occurred. To say this has shocked the entire community is an understatement. This guy was a role model and well respected. I ask again....How and why????
