I am starting to see a bunch of sales on Ruger precision rifles, espeically in 308. Saw this one and almost got it as a donor rifle.
https://palmettostatearmory.com/ruger-precision-308-win-20-camo-rifle-18024.html?trk_msg=U9CSAUQUL03KF12MR53CGMALTG&trk_contact=IDV002440R67H868FEEFI4Q4L4&trk_sid=OFGH3P3E2KLC8UEN0OGL219TE4&utm_source=Listrak&utm_medium=email&utm_term=https%3a%2f%2fpalmettostatearmory.com%2fruger-precision-308-win-20-camo-rifle-18024.html&utm_campaign=Daily+Deal+Email&utm_content=12%3a00+Email
So what gives? Is there some new model that's coming out? if so, is there some flaw in this generation? i am not a RPR guy so i have no experience but I'd like a more serious rifle in the future. Slapping a barrel, in caliber of choice, on a $1k RPR seems like the cheapest way in and still have a super ergonomic and accurate rifle.
Any other deals on RPRs out there others have seen?

Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

They have come down a lot in price. Seems like the 308s are a little cheaper in that platform.

Most of the ones for sale on this forum take a long time to sale and go for quite a bit less than a new one. I thought I wanted one until I held it....it's heavy, clunky, and not comfortable to hold at all.

Huh, maybe this rifle is worth trying out for myself. I'm intrigued by the accuracy that people are getting out of a bone stock rifle. I figured an aftermarket barrel would make nearly gaurantee the accuracy level I'm looking for. And the options for pre-fit Ruger barrels are increasing. Be it new or used, this would totally be purchased as a donor rifle given none come in my caliber of choice. BUT clunky is not a good word to describe what I ultimately hope is rifle I'll use to compete in a few years from now (these darn kids apparently have to be fed and clothed EVERYDAY).

I wasn't gonna admit it because it makes my look like a financial low life, but i had planned on getting a new 0% apr credit card to self finance so this as cash is just something else to consider. But again, man am I thinking about this right now.

A coworker bought one 6mm Creedmoor. Very accurate. He hated it, I hated it, his wife hated it. Heavy, ugly, and AR ish. Now I’m heavy and ugly but in no means resemble an AR. For me it’s the simple fact I don’t like chassis rifles. It was the same for the guy who bought it and wanted to love it. He’s went back to all his classic 6mm Remingtons which shoot half as good. Two Mausers, one 700, and a Ruger tang safety red pad. It’s all about taste. The RPR is a great rifle.

i had planned on getting a new 0% apr credit card don't take the bait, it's a trap Ahh, but not if you play the game correctly. In my earlier adulting years after getting reamed up the rear by credit card companies, I played the 0% intro apr game to perfection and finally paid off $35k in cc after college. I currently don't hold cc debit after the statement period and now I have the financial discipline to pay them off at the opportunity cost expense of cc companies. I'm proud to admit my credit is excellent after years of struggles and payments. Besides, I'm 37 with a mortgage, wife and 2 kids...i don't really need to do this, it's just a nice way of hiding things from the family CFO. I digress. haha, thx for all the replies. this helps.

I’d buy a Tikka TAC A1 if you really want a chassis rifle. You wouldn’t have to rebarrel it, just build a load and shoot it.

I two gripes; I like AICS mags mostly because I have 2 already and Tikka doesn't offer this in the caliber I want. I'm not interested in getting into a discussion about how 6.5cm is all anyone needs. I'm sure it would have far exceeded my desires. However, I've just chosen to "waste my money" on pursuing 6.5x47 as the caliber. Buy once, cry once right?

I’m on my third one and all have been very accurate. Easy to change parts on. AI mags work along with regular AR mags. Has a nice trigger. If your a Remington 700 snob these are not the guns for you.

Korean Redneck, I also like and have the 6.5x47. Mine is in a TC Encore but I have thought of picking up a Tikka in 6.5 creed having barrel removed cut 2" off and have it reamed for the 47 if there would be no bolt face or magazine issues.

Love mine. Not a hunting rifle for sure...heavy, but very accurate out of the box without spending a ton of cash. I took advantage of a very low round count 6.5 with an Athlon 8-34x56 on it for $1000 last year. Low resale value ont hem for sure now that there are several other rifles in that category on the market. Not selling mine though, even when the custom rifle build comes along this one will still be in the safe.
