Hello All,

Looking to take my son crow calling and hunting. We have been dove and duck hunting this year.

Trying to get him more time shooting at live birds for the upcoming season.

Anyone having an issue with crows we can assist with?

We have calls and familiar with the run and gun technique. Mouth calls not electronic

Will pick up all shells and as many hulls as possible.

Land owner more then welcome to join in the fun.

I sure wish I still had my old home made crow caller. Spent many hours chasing crows with it.

And the corn that I have planted automatically around my feeder.

Crow hunting is a blast. One of the most fun off season hunts you can have.

I about 1960 we went to Sterling Kansas to hunt pheasants . It was mid winter; the ground was snow covered and a full moon. The land owner ask us to go shoot crows about 9 PM. We took 4 boxes of shells apiece. Got lined up in a ditch just short of a massive crow roost The crows started to fly in .In about 15 minutes we were out of shells and the snow was covered with crows. What a blast !!!! Never had a chance to do it again

About once a year an uneducated youngster lands on the ground in my pasture. As long as I move without them seeing me, I'll rifle shoot it. If it was a loner, it is over. If it was a pair, often the one that flew will come back to the dead one, circle, call, then land next to the dead one. Drop him too, and we are pretty much done for a year. They are brilliant birds. The smartest thing in the air, in Texas as far as I'm concerned. They may fly over all year, but they will not land on the ground, they learn.

"Only accurate rifles are interesting."

Last spring the murder came over, probably 50 strong. Most landed in the trees, a few landed on the tank dam. I stayed in the shade, and was lining up for a 300 yard shot. My resident Redtail hawk came out of his nest and flew to them, 500 yards from his nest. Needless to say the crows got some gone. That Redtail and I are a team. He gets the rodents, runs off the crows, and I leave him alone.

They are smart, but not as smart as you think and easily fooled by a crow call and decoys. They are territorial and they let their ego over come their sense of danger. Toss out a few decoys, blast the call, stay still and they will come, usually 1 at first until it’s deemed safe. Then comes the murder, once they are just about on the ground, blast away. What’s crazy is, they will most often come back to check out the dead or wounded. We shot at the same group of 7, 3 times.

Not the ones around me. Countless times, if one lands on the ground hundreds of yards away, and if they see me move in the shop, they fly. Gotta be sneaky as hell with these crows, and their eyes are better than I thought, after watching them every week for going on 7 years.

We literally set the call and decoys 15 yards away from us, step into a cedar tree with sun behind us, and wear them out.

Oddly enough, I think both of you have valid views. Those crows are the most hyper alert critters I have ever seen, and maybe the smartest. If there are a few in the front pasture, when I go out the door they are gone. On the other hand, I snuck up on a few last year and wounded one with a 22lr. The rest of the crows swirled around raising a lot of noise, apparently sympathetic to their comrade. I got a couple more of them in the noisy madness.

Years ago my Dad went hunting on a lease we had in Louisiana. On one particular trip, he said a huge flock of crows circled and landed in the big field in front of him. They surrounded one crow, and Dad said it looked like a trial. After a lot of noise from the assembled crows, they pecked that crow to death and then flew off. He said it was really creepy.

Not my monkeys, not my circus...

A friend of mine in high school had one he raised from a chick. It could speak like a parrot and followed his vehicle anytime he left the house. We would be fishing 10 miles away and the dang crow would show up and land on his shoulder.

When you want to hunt them, let me know. Then you will see how they react to a call and decoys.

Because you don't have the brain power to keep up with what I am saying.

I am talking about crows that come by EVERY DAY for 7 years. You are talking about a few days of crow hunting in your life. How many days have you spent on duty at the PD, ever? How many calls have I gone on with PD and without? Big difference in my experience with PD and yours.

I have called them, I know what they do.

Grandma said it was bad mojo to kill a crow.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.
