Im not judgemental, but experienced. The only Taurus I have had that was decent was a PT92. It was very smooth and accurate and I think they improved on Beretta's safety placement. That said, from what I understand, the PT92 is build on old Beretta machinery in Brazil, so that would make sense.

That video is the same model I have, but mine is likely several years older. Between .357 mag and 38 special, I have easily put 3500+ rounds through it and have not had any of the issues shown in the video, or any other problems with it.
Having said that though, I got this gun because it was cheap, and it was an 8 round revolver. Usually not good reasons to choose one gun over another.
If the video depicts the typical quality they are putting out these days, I wouldn't recommend it either. Mine is 8+ years old, it's no S&W or Ruger, but it still works as advertised.

Beretta won a contract for 92FS pistols for the Brazilian army, and one of the conditions of the contract was that the guns were built there. So Beretta built a factory in Brazil and built a ton of pistols and then sold it to Taurus when the contract was over. I have owned both a Taurus PT92 and a Beretta 92FS, and I liked the Taurus even better. But I also like their other pistols too. What other models have you shot that you didn't like?

I'm a Ruger and CZ guy. (SR 1911, GP-100, Redhawk, CZ-75 and clones)
I only own one Taurus, the PT-111 G2 in 9mm and I am impressed. It has been 100% reliable with everything I feed it, not one hiccup so far with just over 800 rounds so far. No modifications, no tweaking, I just wiped it down and started shooting. Yes, the break point of the trigger at the very back of the trigger guard SUCKS, especially with large hands!
From my perspective it is a very compact, 12+1 round, $220 "get off of me" gun that I trust to bang without fail. Mine rides to work with me in my center console with two spare mags and spends the day on my hip or in my desk drawer.

Marc I have had a PT 111 G2 for about 4 years, got it right after they came out. If they had given it different model number they could probably sell a heck of a lot more of them. The original or Gen1 from everything I have read about them was terrible. The G2 has been absolutely flawless for me and I have run RN, HP and a lot of different loadings from my bench and have never had a hiccup from it. Aside from the trigger I have no complaints. Even with the trigger, it is one of the pistols in my concealed carry lineup.

Marc, you peaked my interest. Checked the reviews on Academy's website. Not many complaints, and one guy stated he's put over 2k rounds thru his. Not one hiccup. That's pretty danged impressive for a $200.00 firearm. Janie needs a new truck gun.

Janie,
Try one first - or buy a used one that you can resell. If you were closer I would loan you mine for a bit. The trigger is very different than anything that I have ever shot. The trigger isn't too heavy at all, it's just that the break is way, way, waaaaay back against the rear of the trigger guard. A very unnatural place for anyone who shoots.
It does have a nice short, clean reset for follow up shots. Initially I was shooting very low and left which is classic for trigger adaptation, until I figured out how to deal with it. Now, it is certainly good enough for a close range self defense weapon.

If they had given it different model number they could probably sell a heck of a lot more of them. The original or Gen1 from everything I have read about them was terrible. The G2 really isn't the second generation of this pistol; there have been four generations prior. First was the PT111 and then the PT111 Pro which went through 3 generations. The G2 is the fifth generation of the PT111. The original PT111 was slightly smaller and saw some cracked frames.

I have a Judge and a 1911. Never a problem with either. However, I have heard that taking the 1911 apart and getting it back together is a good trick.

The only Taurus I've ever had is my PT92AF. Bought it sometime in the early '90's and have put thousands of trouble free rounds through it. I keep it properly cleaned and lubed and it just keeps on running.
Other than that I have no experience with any other Taurus models.

The original PT111 looked more like their 709 than it does the Millenium Pro or G2. The 9mm Lugers suffered the cracks and the 32 and 380 Autos bring more than they cost new. Haven't seen one of them on the auction sites for about five years now.

Sorry for the delay. I have owned a pt111, a first year 24/7 OSS,one labeled "total titanium" in 38spl, and a tracker in 357. Honestly the pt111 was fine. On par with any other pocket pistol. The "TOTAL TITANIUM" would start losing frame screws every time I took it to the range. The tracker was ok I guess. The bicycle grips annoyed me, and it never shot very good. Could have been me. The pt92 was a winner. Maybe a fluke, but it was always reliable, and very accuratr, and as I said before, the safety was in the right position vs beretta

Forgot to address the 24/7. Same weird bicycle grips. Wouldn't cycle anything resembling a hollow point. It was accurate when it cycled and came with a bunch of cool stuff, but was never dependable.

Years ago the Taurus M82 was very popular as a truck gun, tackle box gun, bed stand gun, barn gun. It was a close copy to the S&W M10. I knew several people who had them and always went bang and accurate enough for dispatching armadillo, possum, and coon.

Marc This is a copy/paste from my post back in September 2017. I eventually gave the gun to my BIL who is retired on his ranch - it is his daily carry. He reports 100% reliability under regular use. Marc

My PT101 ran great. Wish it would start jamming so whoever stole it would return it!

I have had a couple of their older revolvers over the years, and for the price IF you get one that has some good QC then I think they are worth the money. I’ve even used a buddies 1911 in IDPA about a decade ago, and it seemed to be nice for what it was, but I have definitely herd horror stories about their QC and problems stemming from that. If you can try before you buy a used one I’ld say that’s the way to go, but other than that I’ld say it could be worth the gamble to get one.

How do they compare to Colt or S&W?
They don't! They've been nothing but a cheap knock off company since inception.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I've had three. The first was a Judge. While shooting it one day, the cylinder fell out. Yes, it just fell right out of the frame. I fixed it and got rid of it.
The second was a PT111 (I think?). Magazine fell out every time I fired it. I sent it back. Got it back two months later and the magazine fell out on the first shot. I got rid of it.
The last was a 22 revolver, don't remember the model number. Couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from the inside with door shut and the lights on. Sent it back. Got it back about two months later and the cylinder fell out on the third shot. I took a cuttin' torch to it and chucked it in the green box.
Done. Never more.

I’ve got a g2c with about 400 rounds through it that’s been flawless, and a Taurus Tracker 357 mag with about 500 rounds through it. I’ve been very pleased with both. I would have zero interest in buying a Taurus made more than 5 years ago. QC seems to be light years ahead of where it used to be. I’d still buy with caution.

They don't! They've been nothing but a cheap knock off company since inception. I think that is what makes folks want them. Folks dont want to ruin a more expensive gun just farting around. But, from what I am seeing in their revolvers (handles perfectly just bad looks) is for a hundred dollars more I can get a smith. I would not use my smith as a hammer either.
