Went to the local ford dealership to test drive the new gas engine as i'm wondering if the diesel is the way to go for me....I love the 3/4 ton platform but never pull anything over 10k lbs. about 3-4 days a week I pull a 4k lb trailer, the poor fuel mileage and increased cost of diesel fuel is making me take a look at the gas option.

The 6.2 is a dog.....I'll leave it at that.

My review:

I was able to test drive the same exact truck I have now but with the new 7.3 liter gas. I'm a creature of habit and the fact that I can get the exact same truck in this year model is attractive to me.

Hopped in and turned the key and off I went. I immediately noticed it was a lot smoother than my diesel....presumably due to the lighter front end weight. Rode very well for a 3/4 ton...much better than my current whip. The new 10 speed transmission was seamless and acceleration was good, throttle response was very snappy. Upon getting on the highway, I gave it some gas and acceleration was impressive......its not a diesel by any means but for a gas truck it seemed to have quite a bit of power. From my sources they have de-tuned this engine and with mild upgrades you can get it to make around 550 hp, still as is, was nice. Also enjoyed the quieter ride over the diesel.

Jury is out on Fuel mileage as this one had 4 miles on the odometer and wasn't giving an accurate read....from what I hear its as good or slightly better than the powerstroke.

Def. gonna give this truck a look in the fall when i'm looking to move into something new.

I don't think they will get the same fuel mileage when set up and driven similarly, but I'm sure with the cost difference to purchase and the fuel cost difference and maintenance/def etc. most of it will come out in the wash. I think the reliability of the diesels has come a long way with the aftertreatment devices, but i think baring any major design flaws the 7.3 will be more reliable.

I can tell you I love my little diesel, but I sure like cranking up my wife's gas crossover on a cold morning and having nearly instant heat and not having to listen to that clanking clattering engine till it warms up.

Take it home, hook your normal trailer to it loses as it usually is, and drive around on your normal roads. I think it rides better because the gas trucks don’t have the load or tow capacity so the springs are different.

Why you got to be such a Debbie roflmao

It will probably pull better then the gutless 7.3 diesel

You don't keep trucks long enough to justify a diesel.

I have a 2017 with 108k on the odo so resale is a factor

How am I a Debby? That’s the best way to purchase a truck, test drive as you normally drive.

Front springs should be different load capacity than the front springs on a diesel.

Buddy has the non fancy version of it and he likes the power. The seats are very uncomfortable but that probably won’t matter to you because you’re under 6 ‘

I'm not a big tow'er either, but I miss my '14 Mega I traded for my '17 Rebel. 400HP in a gas engine is nice under the pedal, but it's a gas sucking pig. I'd take my Cummins back in heartbeat, as long as it had my Rebel's air ride.

Go look at the same truck gas vs diesel, the part number tag will still be on the springs, compare them, they will be different.

Correct

Will there be a $10k price difference in 100k miles? I would think so. I'd stick with a diesel if I drove that much regardless of need.

I’d do some looking around at what a 2017 or 2018 diesel vs gas, same trim package, same mileage, is selling for used. I’d bet the diesel is selling for more than $10,000 more
