Hi all. I made this board for a THF member. This style is one I call my signature style. The buyer asked for native texas woods - Pecan, Oak, and mesquite, and I suggested some Texas Cherry I had on hand too. I don't use oak in many boards, and I used three different species of oak in this board. I think it came out nicely. Very nice. Do you use some sort of oil to seal or treat the wood? I made one in shop class many years ago that I still use to this day that looks very similar to that. Think I used lemon oil to seal the wood and it still looks new over 20 years later.

Think I used lemon oil to seal the wood and it still looks new over 20 years later. I use food grade mineral oil primarily. The last coat will have a bit of beeswax mixed in. For the mineral oil / beeswax mix, I use Howard's brand. There are a few others a lot of people use (Walrus oil, for example), and some people make their own mix.

I have been meaning to post on this and keep forgetting too. The board is great I have used it once to carve up some skirt steaks and really wasn’t sure if I wanted to get it dirty or not since it looks so nice but then thought that’s what I had it made for. I can’t wait until it gets a little warmer so I can smoke a brisket and chicken and use it for that. I really thought about buying that kitchen knife that Chops had for sale it would look great with the board.
This is really a quality board and if anyone needs one get Justin to make you one easy to deal with. Thanks for the board and great work sorry it took so long to respond.
