I'm looking at a lease that is next to a high fence ranch. Should we stay away? We have been shut out by a neighbor building a fence next to our lease, but it was the only side that had timber and deer flow was stopped. This place is in south texas.
Thanks, DR

Up against you will deter game movement, no doubt. Fronting another ranch close to yours could funnel them your way has been my experience in South Texas

Several years ago a neighbor HFed his 3Kac next to my place that I bordered to the north and northeast..it funneled more deer onto my property. Actually improved our place.

Depends if the fence is on one, two or three sides of the lease you are looking at. One side it might help hunting on that side. 3 sides and it will impact travel significantly.

It's 2 sides. L shaped property. West side and south side fenced. Could be a funnel I guess.

Thanks, DR Look at it the opposite way.. we are now 3 sides high fenced...first 1 then 2 now 3...Our landowners didnt pay a dime to the neighbors that wanted to fence...Deer will find a way to your land esp with only 1 side fenced.... our surveys found little to no impact on the herd after the fences went up...Being this way now we have to take a certain amount of deer... before the 2nd and 3rd went up that neighbors place was leased to some guys from Louisiana... They killed every deer that crossed the fence... It was a war zone opening weekend,Thanksgiving and Christmas weekends......Dont let it deter you.....!!

Always worry about the deer you raise. Not what you can draw in from the neighbor.
