 New cast iron tiny grill

I have an outdoor fireplace on my upstairs deck on the side of the house facing the lake. We have large fireplaces inside, both upstairs and downstairs and a fire ring in the backyard next to the lake. Since we bought this place two years ago, I just never saw a need for the one on the upstairs deck. It's right outside of the kitchen door, so I cleaned it out and did this: ![[Linked Image]](http://marckurth.com/lakehouse/cajunhibachi.jpg) Just got it, and grilled some Porterhouse on it only once so far. It's 15" diameter, all cast iron. With lump charcoal, it gets plenty hot enough to sear or put a skillet on top. Use some mesquite wood to run it a little cooler. (I have been experimenting without risking food!) They call it a Cajun Habachi and it's $120.00 on Amazon. I had some concerns about having enough room to cook, but it turns out that 15" is actually pretty big   I have discovered that it also acts as a great little heater when sitting outside on the deck with it stoked up with oak instead of charcoal. I need to put a cap on the bricks in front to finish it off. Marc

Nope, that would be ideal, but it is a simple open Hibachi style grill. Of course, I will need to use my regular grill/smoker for some things. Later today it will be raining, but I will be out there grilling under the overhang watching the storm over the lake if the wind isn't too radical. ![[Linked Image]](http://marckurth.com/lakehouse/deck1.jpg)

I had one sort of like that, but it was made out of a cast aluminum pot that was about 16" diameter, used a piece of expanded metal set inside of it, the pots lid made it work like a Weber grill. Used it mainly on canoe river trips.
