We saved scrap iron when I was growing up to get enough money to buy light bread for a picnic. Ever heard it called light-bread? How did your get your money when you were growing up? Ever seine your own minners? Dig your fishing worms? Eat fried bologna?

Growing up in Wisconsin back in my early days. Grew up hunting squirrels, deer and raccoons. We’re always able to sell squirrel tails, deer and coon hides to pay for next years license and ammo. ( Almost 40 years ago), Good old days!

Picked up and sold soda bottles for fishing money when I was a kid. If I remember, minnows were 25 cents a dozen. Later in life while fishing the banks, would always take a plastic bag and pick up aluminum cans, again for fishing money.

We did neighborhood bottle drives for our Churchill HS band fundraising.

I've used a bait trap for minnows and dug for my own worms.

How does eating fried bologna raise $? confused2

Straightened nails for my pop, penny apiece when he was building houses, had a 2x4 and my own hammer and tool belt, that ended when I started the first grade.
Collected glass bottles and milk carton tops. Refund on the bottles and the mil carton tops got you into the theater for free on Saturday afternoons.
Deliver news papers until I was 12.
Worked as an usher at the local theater and graduated to running the projector when I was 14.
Drove a Ice Cream scooter every summer until I got out of high school, worked weekend at Burleson's Machine shop welding and running a lathe on weekends.

I may be one of the few but I've never eaten fried bologna.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Seined minnows, caught crawdads, dug for worms and grubs and ate a metric ton of fried bologna, spam, Vienna sausages, sardines and pickled pigs feet. What did I do for money? Saved the dollar my mom gave me for lunch and ate the free crackers at school till I was about 12. Dad got a truck and we mowed a few yards.

Seined minnows, caught crawdads, dug for worms and ate a lot of fried bologna. Picked up and sold pop bottles for money. We weren't poor by any means but I was taught that if you wanted something you worked for it.

14 years old - chipped mortar from used bricks with a dull machete at a local used building materials yard for a penny a brick.

15 years old - on an Underwood manual typewriter, I typed up two pages of the following note with two carbon copies

Quote
I will wash your car in your driveway, clean the hubcaps and wisk bursh the inside. 75¢ Call TUlane 5547
.

About 25 lines of that on a page cut into one-line strips made about 75 strips. I put those strips on the windshields of cars at church the following Sunday. I got three jobs from that effort. Showed up at their house on my bike with a hose, wash rag, chamois, wisk broom and scrub brush and can of Comet for the wheels. Through word of mouth I ended up with about two dozen regular customers. Some were every week - some every two or three weeks. Did the wash jobs after school or on Saturdays. Kept me in spending money for the next few years and I made more money than my buddies who were getting up at five o'clock every morning for their paper routes.

If you can't laugh at yourself, give me a call. I'll gladly laugh at you.

"I keep trying to see Nancy Pelosi's and Chuck Schumer's point of view,
but I can't seem to get my head that far up my [censored]." Senator John Kennedy, Louisiana
