A lot of knife makers will say you can't get a hamon with 1084.. They can't because they use a slower quenching medium, I use brine to attain full hardness. This is a brand new model # 137. It's 9 1/2 Overall, cutting edge is 4 1/8th on 3/16th thick 1084. Nickel Silver bolster with back spacer on Stabilized Tiger Maple with black liners. It's a solid, and heavy fits in the hand like a glove.

I've never had much luck with a brine quench. I've had more blades develop a micro crack than I've had come out good. I've had pretty good results edge quenching with Chevron 70 quench oil.

Mike we all know that brine or water if definitely the fasted quenching medium. However not very forgiving, I've experimented with it for a lot years and have added blades to the scrap pile, till I figured out what works for me.
I do an interrupted quench, I'm in the brine 2 seconds out three and repeat then I leave till it cools off. I also heat the brine to at least 130 degrees, and only use it on blades 3/16th thick or more and never on longer blades they tend to warp, I quit doing it with Alabama Damascus blades due to the warp issues with brine.

Yep Bob, I guess I'm not very good at brine quenching. I've had some come out good but I've had more than my share crack. I just hate it when I've put all of the effort into a blade just to have to throw it in the trash. I wish I had it down like you do.
I edge quenched a big chopper today with Chevron 70 and it's looking good so far!

Being fairly new here, I was showing my wife this website and was moving through the various threads. I referenced all the neat stuff, comments and various insights on this website. "Stumbling " across this thread, I remarked about this here great looking knife with its large grip, finish and such. Being a major league purschasor, she indicated my birthday was coming up, I was hard to buy for and she was going to get me this here knife. WE PMed Mr. Jank, were fortunate to be 1st, she venmowed him some moolah and the knife was ours.

Timing was great. Had to get up to Fort Worth this weekend to funeralize the SIL and clean out Granny's house so we could sell it and finish up that estate. Jank was willing to meet us on the highway as we passed through Burleson. We would have driven to to his home, but he was willing to go out of his way to help deliver a knife that he alrady had the $ for. We met at the QT in Burleson and made our exchange. When I knew the arrangement, I got some sausage out and put it in a lil'bag. Gave Mr. Jank the two rings for his taking the trouble to make our day easier. I will pass along this favor to someone else and keep the momentum going.

This here knife looks better in person than it does in these here photos. Durn sure feels wonderful in my hand. This blade will be a coveted user - a knife that will actually be put to work. Not really known for fancy stuff (Nato desert night camo from surplus stores is my go to), this here knife is going to be well utilized in the Wild Horse Desert where I get to hunt.

This couldn't have worked out any better. The frau is happy and so am I. Thanks Mr. Jank.
