My anniversary is january 31st. so we just did all that last weekend.
I'll get her more flowers and a card and grill her a nice steak at home that night.

My wife typically gets 3 bouquets of flowers a year. Valentines day, our Anniversary, and then some random time during the year when I've been traveling a lot for work. She never makes a big deal about them, but you can tell deep down that she appreciates them.

Talked about it with the wife. She and I both agreed its a waste after we got married.
First time I didn't get her anything wasn't a happy day. Now I get her a funny card because that's the only kind they should make some tulips because she likes them, and a home cooked steak or a dinner date minus the kids a week before/after the real V-day.
Like you (OP) I do hate myself for it, but I like a happy wife.

My wife would (actually nearly has) kill me if I "wasted" money on flowers or candy. She doesn't like either and believes this is just a made up holiday (which it is). If it takes trinkets to keep you in a marriage you may want to reconsider.

I hate it. I feel bad. But I just ordered my wife Valentines flowers for 160 bucks.
Been married 20 plus years, she likes it. Do it every year.
I know it’s a ridiculous waste. I hate myself right now.
Anyone else ?????? Ok gentleman. I am going to explain again. Control the system. Know the rules, win the game. Always find a positive. I dislike Valentines too. But, I buy my wife SILVER. Many places do Valentines bars and rounds. I get her couple hundred dollars worth, have for years. She absolutely loves it. And every year when she adds the new silver to her collection she goes on and on about how it will go to the kids and etc it’s a win/win. My wife loves the bar that has a rose on it. She has several dozen silver bar roses. No wasted money. I won’t even go into how often you will get “thanked.” Go to APMEX.com and find their Valentines section. You can thank me later!

We are actually going to Nashville with 3 other couples to celebrate a birthday. So I guess this year I'll buy the lady and kid their usual random $10 bouquet of flowers a few extra days early from HEB.

I send roses to Melania
Barron must know by now I will give mine to her in person tonight. That woman does it for me. I’d take an azz whipping to get some of her. Ol Don isn’t doing her any good.

Nope...she’s got me....should be plenty good...
Nope. She learned after the first that I don’t buy into bullchit Hallmark holidays. She will get dinner, but only because we eat out every Friday. Nothing like a pre-determined day of wasting money to eliminate the heavily applied peer pressure and threat of guilt.
Makes my eye twitch just thinking about it. Wow! These ladies put up with our BS from year to year, and that's the way you see it, what a bunch or Romeo's. My lovely bride gets mad at me if I waste money on glowers or crap like that....

Nope, my wife came up to me yesterday and reminded me we were not wasting money on valentines day. She said how we treat each other the rest of the year was her and my gift to each other. She is a keeper.

I will say our first son’s birthday is the 13th so he does take some of the heat off of me.
I really feel like the expectations on THAT particular day shouldn’t be much if you treat her right the rest of the year.
RedChevy, you’re saying you expect gifts on Valentine’s Day? I can honestly say the ONLY thing I ever wanted on that day was to be cut a little slack and not force me to prove my unconditional, everlasting love through wasted gestures or gifts she doesn’t really want. As soon as there’s no pressure put on it, meaning no hard expectations, it’s amazing how much more I want to do something nice.
Man if I knew what Oxner knows I could throw away what I know

I buy my wife flowers every 2-3 weeks or so, cauz the house smells That is impressive. Not the house smell part, but the regularly buying flowers. I need to do more of that. The wife's birthday is tomorrow. And, holidays are huge to her. I feel like Christmas doesn't stop until Valentine's and by then I'm tired and fail at it. Plus, after years of going out, she finally saw how some restaurants double and even triple their prices for Valentine's. They deliberately try to insult to your intelligence. We're done with that crap.
