You see a lot of them used with our elders. They are simple to understand. Much easier to load than some of the tight magazines of the semi auto’s, and there is no slide to have to rack to make ready. I would consider my mom in great shape for her age. She’s 76 and does cardio workouts 3 times a week. She has a real hard time with my shield. Loading the mag hurts her fingers and the slide is hard for her to charge. Then there’s the whole safety thing. She likes to keep it simple with something she has grown up knowing.

An Attorney friend of mine carries one in her purse pretty regularly. I forget what make and model it is. but it is hammerless.

Nope, just doesn’t make sense to me. I have a .357 that I enjoy shooting st the range, but it’s a 6” barrel. Weight is comparable enough between a compact 9mm and a snubby .38 that is rather have 12+1 all day. I pocket carry my lcp pretty often too. Takes up less space in my pocket, and I have 7+1. I also think the argument that they don’t jam and are easier to use is horse crap. Revolvers are just as likely to malfunction, and are much harder clear when it happens. The only benefit is if you have a light primer strike, but my carry gun has a restrike feature anyways, and drops the hammer on the primer with each trigger pull.

I agree with all of that for a range gun. I don’t think any of that really applies to a carry gun. But being comfortable with a gun is most important, so I don’t knock somebody who carries a revolver if the other option is nothing.

I would think walking a dog is a time when you are more likely to need a carry gun than any other time. Especially if you want it at night. That’s a time when I would want the most firepower I could comfortably carry.

Why do you lock it up in Yuma? I go to Commiefornication every few months and always bring a handgun with me. Can't wear it, but it's nice to have in the hotel room. The only things to really watch for are 1) No threaded barrel 2) Magazine capacity of 8 or less, and 3) No AR-15 pistols. And , just for the record, their "Freedom Week" of last year doesn't exempt travellers on the magazine capacity. You can carry your off-roster gun in, you just can't sell it there, except to your son.

Anyway, I carry an old J-frame 'Smith "Chief's Special" frequently.

I think he means "lock it up in the car". Once you cross the border you cannot have a loaded firearm in the vehicle and hand guns must be locked up so they are not easily obtainable by passengers. Just another example of how they want the bad guys to have an advantage. We are from CA and used to visit there periodically but no more! Will stick to the states that honor freedom!

It's not what you say, or think, that counts. It is what you DO!

LOL, you just reminded me of something. My Mom is 74. She carries a S&W 686 in .357 with a 6" barrel in her purse. If she ever had to use it, I would imagine the scene would look something like this.

I laugh about it every time I think about her choice of carry.

Looking to get back into revolver here my self. I just always loved the gun. Seems most incidents happen ( for the average guy) within 3-4 rnds. So thats covered. What I like about it is the simplicity and dependability. IMO beats the auto loader. I have read that smaller auto loaders seem to be more problematic than revolvers also.

I had a SW642 that I sold because I didn't find it as useful for me as my Glock 42 and Glock 19.

HOWEVER-

My wife is not a fan of the small frame/strong spring Semi Autos. She just could not get comfortable or confident with it. For her we went with a S&W 640 PRO-- this is a STEEL gun, 5 shot, .38/.357, comes cut for moon clips, and has very nice night sights. It costs double what a small semi or 642 will run you... but the extra weight for her mitigates recoil significantly and she runs the 90gr Hornady Critical Defense like a champ. Having her confident in her set up is all that matters to me.

And... I can't lie it does carry very nicely and I've been known to sneak out of the house with it on occassion... even with the pink kydex IWB holster up

I have a Ruger LCRX in .38 spl I occasionally carry. It’s slips right into a front pocket and nobody knows it’s there. Easy to carry; still learning to shoot it accurately-not as easy as my Springfield XD.

Could you explain that a little more only disadvantage I see would be not having a gun.

I assume he is meaning a lower magazine capacity. 6 rounds versus 10+ in a semi-auto.

I know im probably all alone on the thought. I cary in case I need it, im not looking to start a war with the drug cartel and hold em off in the Alamo for a few days. I carry a glock 43 9mm because its small and my main concern is concealment. It only holds 6 shots just like a revolver. Sometimes I think about looking into a revolver but what ive got works so ill just keep it.

my edc revolver is the ruger alaskan .454. If and when I shoot it, it will hurt both of us. Now, I still like the .32s out there. They work. I prefer a revolver for grandma.
