Have a hunt scheduled for Wednesday that I don’t think can be rescheduled.
Here in central Texas we are looking at high 30’s to low 40’s afternoon temps and 10-20 mph winds.
To be honest, I’ve only hunted quail on pretty fair weather days.
How does this type of weather affect quail, chuckar and pheasant ?
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

The wind bothers me. I would wait.

I don't know about these Texas birds, but I grew up in Kansas and that was called prime hunting conditions. The cold keeps the pheasants from wanting to get up and run as much and the wind covers up the noise you make. Can walk right up on top of them, makes for easier shooting. Could have hunted with a baseball bat on some hunts growing up, probably with better luck with the way I shoot.

If it’s a canned hunt try to reschedule. You will enjoy it more on a nice day.

I can’t reschedule.
No doubt I would enjoy it more on good conditions but it’s already paid for with a no cancelation policy

The cold isn’t a problem but low clouds and wind are.

Cold(30-40) weather and cloudy is great for the dogs. 10mph is good, but 20mph is a bit tougher, but still doable. I would not cancel.

If it's a canned hunt, it doesn't matter what the weather is. The birds will be where they are planted. If its blowing hard I 'd just make sure everyone is safe because those pen raised birds are going to fly with the wind and therefore right through your line or back into your face.
In dog beers, I've only had one.

The place I’m going from what I understand is always putting birds out. I could be shooting a bird that was released yesterday or 3 months ago. Hard to say. It’s gonna be what it’s gonna be though

The dogs can run forever at those temps! As long as there is some humidity in the air to help scenting, I think those are perfect continuations Too still is bad. 5 - 10 MPH is good to go. By 15 MPH, the birds are holding better, but its getting more challenging for the dogs. I'll still hunting at 20 MPH, but its hard for the dogs to hear you and hard for you to hear birds flushing...scent cones disperse very quickly, and even a medium ranging dog better be trained to the collar beeper or buzzer. I'm probably shutting down by 25.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

Dogs were frisky and it was very pleasant hunting. Quail were cold and they held extremely tight, almost had to step on them to get them to flush but the chuckar and pheasant were up and moving well. Glad we went

Never let a weather forecast change a hunt or fishing trip. Go hunt. What would you do that would be better?
Much of the time, the weatherman is wrong anyway.
