Before the suggestions start flying, let me just say that I will probably be shooting no more that 100-150 yards at targets or hogs. Not looking for night vision or thermal. I can’t decide on a red dot or a traditional rifle scope with/without illumination. Sure would appreciate some solid input. Would like to stay around $300.

What are you shooting?

At that price I would prolly look for a quality red dot

I shot 200 yards with my sons EOTech (basically a red dot). It was pretty hard to see the target out that far but I hit 4-4 shot on a 8x8 target. I want a 1-6 or Better scope after doing that.

Try to find a deal on a used one.

SS 1-4X

Bomb proof, great glass, 10 feet or 400 yards is no problem. Lots of bang for the buck in that little rifle scope.

I recently got the 3-12x Nikon m-tactical for $200 from Europtics for a 17hmr we just got. I'm sure it has something to do with Nikon getting out of the scope game but Nikon products have been good to me in the past so I took a chance. I got it in my hands and the glass is about as good as my old Monarch, I assume it's basically the same. The zero reset function being tool-less and easy is awesome. All that said, I do NOT believe Nikons to be tough as nails. I've never fully tested it on mines but I've beaten around some other rifles and scopes and Nikon just don't seem as tough. I too think swfa scopes are tough, heavy as heck but built like a tank. I've dropped my 3-15 more times than I wish to admit.

Not the perfect solution i was looking for but was at a great value/price point.
