Dang I let another season slip by like a flash in the pan. Still busy and running. I am thankful for the half a dozen hunts i managed to get done. i had some really eventful days even though I went a handful of times. I got my new black bitch and intentionally left her off of some hunts that were sort of crowded. I am trying to run her in Feb on akc hunt tests. I didn't want all the shooting and ducks falling all over to cloud our training program. I did take her with me and my bro. We shot 12 in 11 or so minutes. She sat tight without breaking and mopped them all up at the end. My first bird of the day, her first duck ever was banded. Hoping that is the sign of the future. I have out of state family in so i am done. See them next year I reckon.

Also a very special thanks to the men in these pictures. These are fine men that revitalize my thoughts about the future of this country. In their 20s they can and do out work me. They work hard, they pray hard and they are straight up killers in a duck blind. They take my bullsh.. very well also. Thank you men! Without yall the new duck camp wouldn't still be a wish.

Very cool pictures with the birds, but I am really excited to see how you put up your duck camp. That kind of project really feeds the wild side. I am definitely envious.

Great pics. I remember seeing your duck blind post a few months ago but I don't remember seeing updates or drawings of what it's going to look like finished. I'm always curious about duck projects. Please keep us posted.

Alright alright then. My crew made it out this weekend and we reached our goal of finishing the floor joists. We are shut down until next fall. [Linked Image]

Looks great and really enjoy the progress photos. I assume it's raised for irregular floods and not normal water levels?

Hurricane Carla brought a 22 foot storm surge. She wiped out Matagorda, Port O'connor and Palacios. No one can expect for a house to make it through, on the barrier island. The build up is for smaller storm surges. Plus the view is kind of grand.

John Paul thank you. That's a very nice compliment. My crew has talked me into not hiring a framer and saving that cash. We talked about it and believe we can be dried in by this time next year. I am set to retire in 15 or 27 months. I will be able to really pour the work into it to finish out then. I can stay out there for a month at a time.

Thank you guy. It will no doubt get done. My crew asked me not to contract out the frame work. They want to be a part from beginning to end. We will take a week off next year, stay at my friend's house on the island and knock it out. Once its dried in, we can start using it. So far as a hurricane, nobody knows! I can build a house to stand a hurricane. Its not the hurricane that gets the houses that are built right. It is the storm surge that is the destroyer. Nobody can build a wooden structure to make it through a storm surge.

Hurricane Harvey put 63 inches of water in my house, 50 miles inland from the coast. The condo in Port O'Connor got nothing. The downstairs laundry room is like 5 feet above sea level. You just never know what's going to happen. Only one thing is certain about the weather, the weatherman is a moron. To add to that I am a bigger moron because I still look and plan on the weather report.
