Trying to attach a sanding disk to the unit,,

The backing pad on the unit has only partial sticky surface and pads will not hold, trying to remove the plate it shows to hold attaching bolt, however the surface on the plate is solid surface, no center hole, and the surface is attached too solidly to remove, NO space between unit body and plate for a tool. Ideas ?

Sticky surface on a machine that creates copious amounts of dust is a terrible idea. Need to invest in one with hook and loop fastening.

Well, we can’t see the sander. Don’t have a clue as to what it looks like. The sticky surface, is it hook and loop or is it a glue type? If it’s hook and loop, that stuff wears out eventually, and you can order a replacement pad. As to how to remove the existing pad, look on the internet.

Or...go to Home Depot and buy their $60 random orbit sander. They work fine, easy to work on and cheap to replace. And you can hook up a shop vac to it and have essentially zero dust escape to the air.

Sorry, maybe the question wasn't plain enough, the surface of the attached plate is sticky (It holds the pad), there is no way to hold that plate, as stated in their literature, buying a new one seems like an excessive waste of money when this one seems to work ok, and by the way, I was raised during the Great Depression, so holding on is deeply imprinted here. :),

Thanks everyone

If it's your standard run of the mill DA pad, you use sticky sanding disks, the disk doesn't hold plain paper. Paint & Body work creates copious dust, never been a problem.

I'm not familiar with this link, the only point is to illustrate the standard DA self-stick roll.

I googled your thread title and got to the home depot info and instruction manuals for your sander but could not find the wrench or wrench size listed.

Thanks Jon, will do

btw: My oldest Son is named Jon, born 13 Feb 1955

I was in Japan mountain climbing in the Haruna Fugi range, with the 9th Corp Mountain Training school, was pitoned in on a cliff and someone dropped a rope from the top telling me of his birth in the US.

Wow, me and your son are almost the same age. I was born 3 Jan, 1955.
Cool story about how you got the notice of your son’s birth!

Thanks all,
.
Huskee has suggested that I take the unit to a Home Depot, they have a special wrench to remove the buffer plate.

"Upper and onwards"
