All morning I’ve been fixing fence, a job I truly hate. Lost half a pint of blood, but all my fence damage is now fixed, and I even did a bit of the neighbor’s fence (he’s a good guy). While heading back to the house, I saw a spot in a creek water gap that could use a bit of work, so I parked the Kubota and went down in the creek to do it. While I’m working with the wire, I hear this popping sound. Odd sound, and I looked all around to see what the heck it was. I’m in the middle of nowhere and the only sound has been birds chirping. The sound was the successive popping of tree roots. A really big tree starts falling and lands right between me and the Kubota, with a big crash. The only good news, other than it missed me and the Kubota, is that it wasn’t blocking my path to the house. Woulda been a long walk to get the chainsaw and tractor. And this is no job for the wife’s cute little battery powered chainsaw.
I spent all yesterday making a road back to where the fence needed fixing. This tree completely blocks that road.
I’m trying to work up the energy to get the chainsaw and tractor and go back there and cut the tree up, but I’m just not “feelin it”. Maybe tomorrow.

Super glad YOU are okay. Also glad your equipment is okay. Tomorrow seems like a good time to cut the tree up. I think you've earned an afternoon off!
Any damage to the tree? IE: any idea why it may have fallen?

Had it happen a couple years ago sitting in my deer blind. Heard a tree start to go real close and it landed about 15' away. Would have killed me if it hit the blind. Pretty scary.

Wow......glad you are OK! Had a big one fall but Did land on the shed the tractor was under. I rented a hoe to dig it out......cut it into ~12' lengths and let my son haul the pieces down to the bottoms. I did not want to mess with trying to make it firewood. Cut UpTree Pic

The tree roots appear to have been rotten, but the tree looked to still be alive. That popping sound I mentioned sure did sound odd. The roots were snapping before I noticed that the tree was falling. Being down in the deep creek, I probably would have been safe if the tree had fallen my way, but there was no protection for my Kubota. Probably would have totaled it.
I spent hours making that road and creek crossing that the good Lord has now blocked with a big tree. I wonder if he somehow sent me a message, though the wording wasn’t clear, other than “don’t use that road”.
Next time I fix fence, I’ll take a chainsaw along. Ya never know....

An old man used to tell me..."boy, when the Big Man knocks on your door, you WILL get up and answer it..."
Thankfully, today it was not your door.
..and don't worry about the tree. Nobody's going to move it overnight.

I had a 100 year old pecan tree fall into my pond awhile back. There was never any doubt where it would land. It was leaning in a 45° angle.

Thanks for the well wishes. Tomorrow I will take the chainsaw and punish that tree. Then I have one more spot to fix on the neighbor’s fence. If I don’t fix it I’ll have his cows as guests again. He said he’d fix it, but that doesn’t mean it’ll happen tomorrow.
Ya know....if the tree had mushed my Kubota flat, I might have done like tlk and got the fancy Kubota with doors and A/C.

Have had two trees fall close to me while hunting. Both on dead still days. Freaky feeling. Either one would have been the end of the road had they fell on me. Glad you came out OK.
