I was just courious if anyone had any idea on the home range for free range axis deer? I have a family place just west of Fredericksburg and have never seen any exotics until about three years ago. We had a big group of axis deer that moved in and stayed around for about 16 months. Then one day they were gone. Now about a year and a half later since they left they are back. I can’t confirm, but I think it’s the same group. I imagine they must have a big home range?

They go where the graze is abundant & the pressure is not.

Axis deer have moved into Comal county. Saw 1 dead on 32, near Fischer store. Another one on 46 west of town that had been hit. Saw one dead near Adamsville near the Lampasas river on saturday. They're coming folks.

I know of a ranch in Adamsville that had some axis get loose. Not a bunch but I’m sure they haven’t been the only one.

The only thing I have seen to keep Axis in check is coyotes. They have not seemed to have figured out what to do to not get killed.

I have a friend with a small place a couple miles due east of Adamsville that had a young bull elk or red stag on his game camera a few weeks back.

We had a red stag hanging around last summer with a cow and calf. Unfortunately for us the stag and cow were never seen again after bow season started. Our place is south of Cherokee on east side of Hwy 16.
