Curious about the hunting just North of Olney in southern Archer county. I've hunted Jack county but I think the Olney country is not quite the same so was hoping for some THF input.

I've heard, lots of agriculture, not as high deer densities but some very nice sized deer due to the heavy agriculture..

Probably good Dove and decent Turkey.

I wouldn’t expect the numbers compared to Jack Co

In that area there are pockets/areas that have good deer & numbers and areas where you'd be lucky to see a deer.
Hard to say much more about the general area without knowing location specifics.

Probably best to assess each property yourself / take a half or full day to drive around / or look at specific properties using acme planimeter, google earth, satellite imagery etc.

Im pretty much with Rustler. I just drove through there yesterday and a lot of that country has been cleared. I know not nearly all for sure because I hear about guys hunting in there and it seems like most places(depends on neighbors). I don't know a lot about country East of there but in every other direction outa Olney it CAN BE real good.

The specific area I'm referring to is around the two lakes north of Olney. Lake Olney and Lake Cooper.

I live just west of Onley, the problem is getting a lease if you can find one. Interesting, I tend to see bigger bucks taken north of Olney into Archer county. As someone said, lot of agriculture north of Onley. I see a lot of nice 120's through 140's bucks taken in Young county. I guess like most places there's always that lucky son of a gun who tags a really big one. My ranch produces a couple nice 120's & 130's each year. One day I hope to see a really nice monster. My buddy's brother killed a 158" 12pt three years ago five miles west of me. They're out there!

If the draw that drains lake Olney is very near ( a couple hundreds yards or less) or it goes through the property you’ll have good deer.
You can see it on a satellite image.

NNE of lake Cooper W of 2178 to just N of Kincy rd will have good deer near the wooded areas, draws & water.

E of 2178 starting around lake Cooper rd going north where it makes a sharp east bend you’ll have good deer.
Again anywhere you’re very near to or any of the draws, ravines, creeks, or if any run through the property you’ll have good deer.

Be sure to check to the best of your ability neighboring properties ( using satellite imagery), where there are good pockets of deer there are usually plenty of hunters.
This is not an undiscovered / unknown / hot spot type area, lots of leases & hunters around there.

Don’t let thick mesquite fool you if you have creeks dry or wet, draws, ravines or ponds and good cover you’ll have deer.
If you find a place that has Oaks, even a few you’ll have good deer.

Yep, lots of open country, probably tough to find a decent lease in a pocket of good deer, this might help ---> acme planimeter Or, ---> google map <---.
Like any area there are a few jokers, shady people & a couple lease broker types to avoid.

Lots of leases in the area that have 600 acres but only 80 maybe 100 acres of that is decent deer habitat, not a bad area at all if you have enough acreage per hunter.
