(Mods, if this is too bloody, I apologize)

For the last eight years I've gone with a friend to Runnels county for a doe hunt. Every year, he and I have harvested does, except for last year. They have a very high head count of deer on this ranch, and the usual hunters on the lease are not killing enough does. So, it helps us both having me come out during antlerless season. Well, in Jan 2019 we had no wheat, because it had been so wet out there, the ranchers could not sow wheat. And we hunt wheat fields. Last year was the first ever we got skunked, we filled no tags. During the year, I eat venison breakfast sausage every morning. I ran out of that in May 2019. So the hunt came around this year, and I was drooling for some more venison. And the deer population was high as ever.

Before anyone asks, 7mm-08, 162 A-Max (I bought thousands of them two years ago)

Wednesday evening.

Friday evening these three were harvested in about 2 minutes. All young, but all great meat, and the rancher wants numbers brought down as much as possible. It is cotton country, as well as cattle country, so too many deer is a problem for such a historically dry part of the state.

He also harvested two does. So we had 6 deer to process the last few days. Lots of dirty clothes and lots of knife sharpening happened lately.

Congratulations, well done. Our "doe smack" is this weekend. 'Hope we exceed our goal. We gotta get mouths off the place.

Looks like a fine time.

Nice job! up We have the same problem with hunters not taking enough does each year. We like to go during archery season and knock them out. Less does gives the bucks something to fight over during the rut and if a good doe and a good buck hook up we don't knock "the 1" out of the gene pool.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Doe patrol or a doe-pocalypse is always one of the best weekends at the ranch.

Nice shootin, glad you got some meat for the year.

We just made another 100 lbs of sausage Saturday... nothing beats a good breakfast with pan sausage while your still stuffing the rest of the batch.

My lease is out in Runnels county and the land owner has already told us that next year he is ants 40 does to come off. I don’t know how we are going to do it so I may have to give out some invites.
