For years I fed plain old corn, but when my supplier ran out I bought some Peanut butter flavored corn and the deer appeared to really like it. Later I got some White Oak Acorn flavored corn and the deer and pigs were all over it. Now I’m back to the plain old corn and my feeders don’t seem to have much activity. Have I spoiled my critters or is this just because they have other browse?

I guess I’ll buy more of the white oak acorn flavored corn and see if the deer crowd my yard feeder again.

What is the price difference for flavored corn?

Seems like it was an extra dollar or so per bag, but the bag was 40# instead of 50#. I’ll try the flavored/scented stuff again, but I really don’t want to find out I have upscale picky eaters.

I’ve tried Apple, Orange, Vanilla and all seem no different than corn flavored corn.

Haven’t tried Indian corn, seems socially irresponsible.

It's not the corn, it's the scent. How many Texas deer on ranches have a clue about vanilla or apples? S. Tx might know a little about oranges, but it's probably a small number. Go with what works.

I agree that it must be the scent. I put out some of the white oak acorn scented corn at my back pond one morning and hunted over it that afternoon. A big boar came trotting rapidly out of the woods, skidded to a stop over the corn and started eating - till I shot him. Now, it probably was just a coincidence that he was in such a hurry, but it might have been the smell of that corn, being the smell of his dreams. And he came from downwind of the corn. I will buy more, and specifically that scent, and do more research.

Where did you buy these different scented corns? I heard about a product called bait corn but it was $10.00 a bag.Every thread I've ever seen about the best attractant, plain ol corn gets more responses. I have tried spraying vanilla on hand corn and apple corn but always go back to plain ol corn. It's just easier and cheaper.

I buy the stuff at a local feed store in Groesbeck. A 40# bag of the foo foo stuff is about $8. I don’t really know if the deer and pigs like it better, but sometimes I think it makes a small difference to the good. Maybe.

With corn I think it's all about the scent and their ability to find it. Once an animal knows where the corn is it will all get eaten regardless of advertised scent or flavor. The other side of that is if they're eating other stuff and not corn, that will also be the case regardless of advertised scent or flavor.

Once I bought apple flavored corn because the store was out of regular corn...deer freaked out for a while and didn't come in to feed at first, probably never smelled an apple before LOL. They liked it after they got used to it.

Put some peanut butter on the legs of your feeder and see if the deer react to it.

One thing for sure about flavored corn. Cows will destroy a feed pen to get to it way quicker than they will regular corn. Hogs seem to do the same. A fellow lease member a while back tried some of it and the cows wouldn’t leave the destroyed feeder pen for two days after they ate it all.

Dry grape or cherry Kook Aid power is cheaper than flavored corn. Grape Gatorade too. I've gone back to just plan ol corn because it just works and is cheapest year round

On a side note.

Is it the scent or is it the corn? Our deer eat mummies apple corn like I eat ice cream. Throw a bag of soft apples out there and they eat the corn around them and leave them.

Many years ago me and my daughter had a "know-it-all" tell us that we should not use corn, apples were better and we would have 100s of deer. We bought a big bag of apples and cut them in fourths as we were instructed. Note, there were no feeders on this place. We were quite disappointed as the only deer we had were far out and they just walked by. The next morning we threw out regular corn and we had many deer and they ate the corn around the apple pieces. The next week the apples were still there, all withered and half dried up. I didn't count the pieces but I bet they were all still there.

I had the same experience with apples. And I must be a slow learner as I tried it twice about 10 years apart.
Just plain old yellow corn will do 99% of what you are wanting it to do and a lot cheaper.

Regular ol corn for me as well. Someone gave us a bunch of apples 5 or 6 years ago, so we threw some outside one of my pens i have around my feeder. Deer didnt touch them. Pigs didnt touch them. They eventually just withered away.

I tried apple and orange with poor results. The deer and hogs wouldn't touch it and it took a heavy rain to wash it all away.

I found that Walmart corn isn't as interesting to the deer and Academy corn. To me, that seems to be what they hit the hardest. Atwoods is cheaper then Academy and it's where I shop every day for feed, so I usually buy that. Their deer corn costs the same as their feed corn, but I think they deer like the feed corn, in they solid yellow bag, better then they like the deer corn, in the camo bag. If' I'm close to Academy, I'll stop and get corn there since it does seem to be the best.
