Here are a few pics of the car my oldest son and I built for last season.
My son drives and works on it and I am the crew chief, cook, bottle washer and motor builder.
It's an IMCA Modified dirt track car running a 383 open class motor on Methanol with Brinn direct drive transmission and a Winters quick change rear end.
This is his Rookie year in this class and first time driving an open class car.
We ran the full season at Texana Speedway in Edna, Tx and finished 2nd overall for the 2019 season!

We started with fresh from powdercoat bare chassis in Oct 18, pardon the dust, it was sitting in storage container for a few months.
That big blue hose is the alcohol line from fuel tank - she's a bit thirsty when you stand on it.

Freshly rebuilt alcohol 383 stroker mounted and ready for break-in.

Cockpit is starting to get busy.

Lets do some sheet metal.
We bend our sheetmetal on a metal break I built using a 7' Caterpiller cutting edge for upper press bar.
The pink and blue vinyl protective plastic is still attached to some of the white .040" aluminum skin.

Fast forward to Mid February 2019, fresh off the trailer at Texana for first practice session.
Car was literally finished minutes before it was loaded on trailer and about as virgin as it gets in this photo.

It's got the IMCA required mufflers on it and still shakes the shop walls quite well.

It's got gears but doesn't work like normal clutch/tranny.
It has reverse/neutral on one lever and low/N/high on other lever.
Normally, you put it in R or L before you start motor.
When you get ready to move, push the clutch pedal to engage the clutch pack inside tranny - The clutch only works in R or L.
When ready to head to track, put in L and push clutch to engage and get on track, once on straight, run it up a little, let off clutch and shift into H.
High gear is 1:1 direct drive straight thru transmission to rear end.
Takes a little practice but gets HP to rearend with minimum weight spinning around in tranny.
The entire transmission weighs under 50 pounds.
