Read last night in Safari Magazine that in 1991 there was approx. 100,000 wild animals total in South Africa (area about twice the size of Texas). Now there are over 20 million, due to ranching for wildlife and anti-poaching efforts.

There are est. 5k-10k Aoudad in their native range in Northern Africa.....There are an estimated 75,000 here in Texas.

Blackbuck antelope was declared Extinct in Pakistan in 1967. The animals there now are result of transplants from Texas in the late 80's to early 90's.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I do believe the same happened with Scimitar Oryx. They were repopulated from hunting ranches in Europe, IIRC.

I read a while back that there are probably more tigers kept as pets in Texas than there are in the wild. That's crazy.
