It can be a pain to deal with the traffic issues but it's kind of cool to watch the movies and look for landmarks you know:
I grew up in Richardson, TX. The original Benji movie (about the dog) from the mid '70s was filmed in the old east side of town, a friends Aunt's house was used for several shots.
A movie called Technically Crazy was filmed all around Greenville and lots of locals were extras in it.
The first Robocop was filmed in and around Dallas, lots of landmarks if you are familiar with them.

I have to say I liked the second one much better. There's only a couple of JW movies that warrant multiple viewings IMO. The Cowboys and The Shootist.

He plays the same character in every movie he was in. He plays John Wayne. I'm a fan of the man but really only like The Cowboys and The Shootist.

I'm a huge John Wayne fan and have been since I was a little kid, but I'll acknowledge he wasn't a particularly great actor. He was, however, a great star and that's why he's still so popular.

Read the book and you will find that it was more about Mattie than Rooster.

To me, both versions are greatness.

When the original hit the Dallas area, McLendon's Gemini Drive In on North Central did a promotion.
John Wayne and Glen Campbell flew into the theatre in a helicopter and greeted the crowd. We were there.

More from Mattie. I still think she is the hero of the book.

Here's some food for thought, especially coming from a 14 year old girl.

Ill take the original movie any day. I don't know if its because is saw it first and grew up with it, but every time I see the remake I just find myself saying in my head "is it over yet?"

Never read the book bill, but would like to some day if I have time before I die.

Same here. I need to read it but I've always found it hard to read a book after I've seen the movie. However, I don't have an issue reading the book then seeing the movie. I can't explain it.

The second one feels much more like the book. I enjoy it more. The first one is a good John Wayne western.

I'm now reading the book for the third time. Both books followed the book pretty well. Both left out the part where he gave Mattie his biography. He left the war and robbed a gold shipment from the army, went to Texas and did a few bad thinks.

Watched it the other night. Its good. Really like the girl. Watched Shane the night before. Now that's a Classic. The kid is great. When I visit my elderly Mom old Westerns is about all we watch. Gunsmoke my favorite. I remember vividly as a kid on Sunday nights(I think) when the opening music would start I would run through the house and slide in my socks past my Dad in his big chair and set up just in time to try and out draw Matt. Never did.
