We’ve had grassburs aka sandburs at our lease for the past 5 years. We spray Roundup Pro a couple times a year (once during turkey season and once during the summer). This year they were horrible!
Can any of you tell me your success with getting rid of these darn things?

I have been fighting grass burrs for years at my home in our back yard. have dug then up by the root and filled 5 gallon cans to no success. Was told that fertilizer and water to increase the lawn grass was the best thing to do. Nothing seemed to work until this past year. I bought a herbicide brand name Balan from a feed store in Waco, seems it was about 34 lbs priced at $39.00. Contained 2.5.g.Benefin and is granular I put this on the yard last September and fertilized and watered the yard more than usual early spring. To my surprise we had hardly any grass burrs after use. Have heard it should be used in September and February. I have tried to buy this local without success, it can be found on the internet but the shipping is expensive due to being a chemical I guess. This is the only thing I have had success with.

Unfortunately, fire snd sod are out of the question since there are trailers. Plus we’d have drive 3.5 hours and mow every week or so.
I searched for Balan and it looks like the closest place that sells it is 100 miles from me.

Go to Home Depot and get Lesco's PreM preemergent herbicide apply now and again in April. Try to schedule application around rain if possible since it needs to be watered in. If you have some grassburs come up you can always spot spray MSMA if you can get it or any grassy weed herbicide. You will need to repeat the Preemergent application every year to keep them at bay.
Good Luck!

Improve the soil is what makes them go away forever......Put out as much dried molasses and corn meal gluten and mulch as you can afford.
Roundup is just feeding them as it ruins the soil further.

I believe you actually have to fertilize them to death with a specific fertilizer. I remember reading up on this years ago.

MSMA is the best. Burning gets rid of the seeds. I would ask the landowner if it's OK to use anything as he may have objections to some herbicides if he is grazing.

You can order target 6 plus out of Florida and they will deliver to your door. About 2oz per gallon should do it. Spray once when it's hot and dry, then come back two weeks later and do the same.

I think Target 6 may be the new name for MSMA. Preemergent tends to get expensive pretty quick. You have to have good timing (weather dependent) as well.

You won't win, even after you think they are gone, the wild animals will track in more the sand burrs back into the area.
A dog running loose in the neighborhood tracks them into the yard, so do the kids. The grass burr is like the fire ants, a continuous battle.
