Doing some cleaning up and I have maybe 20 rounds of live ammo that I don't feel comfortable shooting. I have every reason to believe they would go BOOM if I were to try to fire them but for one reason or another I don't feel comfortable doing so. Some have corrosion, some the bullets are seated back waaaaay to deep, some have bulges, and some I have no idea where they came from, etc. So I want to get rid of them SAFELY!

Im thinking I could soak them in motor oil to kill them but then what?? Do I just toss them in the trash, bury them, or what??

Pull the bullets, pour the gunpowder on your yard.

Wear ear pro, chamber the brass with a primer still in it, and fire it off.

That's what I did with a bunch of OLD .257wby I had laying around, its also a good way to practice trigger pull while popping off the primers.

Pull the bullets with what? I don't reload so I don't have a bullet puller. A pair of pliers sounds exciting though! LOL

2 pliers generally work for pulling bullets, not like you care what happens to the case or bullet

Then smash the primer with a sledge hammer

Once a bullet is pulled and powder dumped, a generous spray of WD40 will kill the primers. I read this many times and as a test I tried it one day with a few primed cases (no powder or bullet) they did not ignite when shot in a revolver

WD-40 works on just about anything.

Yeah, we use to throw them in a pond/lake, hard to use what’s stuck in the mud.

Is there a problem soaking them in my recycle oil, straining them and then dropping in a post hole about 2 ft deep. Doesn’t happen often but am I missing something in my thought process. Great question.

Why not soak them in a 5 gal bucket of water? Seems that this would be more effective than oil.

Just toss them i a burn barrel. It will be fine. Needs a chamber and a barrel to control the pressure and make good power. They will just pop like firecrackers.

I have literally, burned 40mm grenades in a burn pit. The kind that go in a MK19 grnade launcher. More than once, other UXO's as well. I am still here:) I have burned countless cheese charges for mortars as well, even cut them open and used the powder therein to burn in letters in a sign.

So just toss em in a burn barrel, or campfire. I wouldn't do it in something I prepare food on though.

I followed your device with several rounds that had damaged casings. It takes two strong pairs of pliers and a bit of a knack to it but works fine.
