Over the years I’ve had several battery powered tracking lights. None were very good, and a big part of the problem is battery life. Recently I bought a small portable work light for the travel trailer. It’s a rechargeable Milwaukee 12 volt with a lithium battery. It puts out a lot of light for a long time, and you can pack an extra battery or two in your pocket or bag. I had reason to use it recently, hoping it would work for tracking, and it was great. Get the larger flat bottomed battery, so it’ll stand upright.

In the past I have read that the old Coleman lanterns were the best for blood trailing at night.

In the past I have read that the old Coleman lanterns were the best for blood trailing at night. This is what we always used. Puts out a very bright white light.

UV Light/black light like they use to find freon leaks in a car. Makes those blood drops stick out at night.
If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

I cannot remember (Coleman lantern) why it is the better light, but it has to do with the color of light it puts out at night.
From what I remember it is a great help for those folks who are red/green color blind, which I am.
The light is supposed to help with picking up the dried sheen from blood.

And cover the back half of the lantern with foil. Easier on the eyes. They are very effective.
