There are also public hunting corp lands around texoma. Going to squirrel hunt it next week. You can Google public hunting corps land lake texoma and there is a map with color coded areas based on restrictions. Supposedly the grasslands wma is absolutely full of squirrels as well.

Still best bet is to get a lease. If $1,700 is too much it will be tough. I can go year round and anytime I want. And fish. Not bad price for freedom less than 2 hours from the house from anything on a place that would cost $3 mil now!

I agree about the lease. I want one bad, but selling the wife is a near impossibility right now. We need other things like a new family car. One day maybe. Getting the boys out to public land will be my next step. I want to take my oldest fishing too. I think he will like that.

At the time I lived in Wylie. We would go up to Lavon for the squirrel/rabbit hunts. Easy, quick day trips. Public corp of engineer lands and it is free. I bet you could sell your wife on that. LBJ and Caddo grasslands is only $48 for the Public Hunting Permit. I hunted there during bow and turkey. They also allow rabbit and squirrel.

Last time I checked all you need for the LBJ Grasslands is a Texas Resident License. It is not part of the state system. Shotgun, muzzleloader, archer only and you need hunter orange vest and hat.

Wishing you the best sir. Have you thought about bow hunting? There are plenty of areas close to Denton, especially north of Lake Lewisville and south of Ray Roberts. Believe it is Corps of Engineer land. Also Lake Grapevine but I think that is a draw hunt. Also check out Lake Mineral Wells State Park - a little further away but you can camp there (bring the family) - it is a draw hunt as well. Good luck, was in your situation 30 years ago.

I would love to get into bow hunting. I actually got fitted for a bow and everything. I just cannot afford a bow. Even old used ones are hundreds of dollars. Plus, I am not sure where I would practice. I live in the suburbs and I certainly could not do it in my postage stamp back yard. Maybe one day. I really would like to do it though.

I really appreciate your generosity. I have a 20 gauge shotgun that I can use for now, so I don't think I need another. It is super nice for you to offer though.

Machintis, I normally keep to myself and hunt with the young'uns, but if you want to meet around the grasslands I can show you some of the places. I'm an experienced hunter but I don't shoot much. You could bring your oldest. It's the best scouting time for next year anyway.

I'm a CPA so it gets super busy from now till May, but I plan on spending some time scouting. We'd just need to schedule it. Pm me if interested. It may take me a little bit to get back to you.

I had leases for nearly 40 years and I'm glad I did, but at my stage in life I like the idea of hunting different places. Which is why I don't shoot much. :}
