Picked up an ancient controlled round feed Savage 7 Mag yesterday for $200 in the attempt to throw my 375 H&H barrel on it. Bummer that I cannot find a box mag long enough for this cartridge.

Called Northland today and he had a new 338 Win take off from a Savage 116 Alaskan Brush hunter, 20 inch stainless with iron sights for $65

I didn't think I had enough Patriot Brown cerakote for the action and bbl, so I mixed 50/50 with burnt bronze. I thought it came out awesome although my lighting makes it look gold. I will use my good camera tomorrow in the daylight to get some better photos. It looks basically like a real dark burnt bronze.

Looking at a cheap Boyds stock thus far. I haven't settled on anything as of yet though. I do know that I am converting to blind mag over the old crappy side button mag release factory stock.

Cleaned up the factory trigger, since I had to disassemble the action anyways. I have it tuned to a nice unpredictable 3lbs which should be fine for what it is.

Debating on running the junk 2 piece weaver mounts that came on it or ordering a $30 EGW base. I am undecided thus far. Trying to make it as cheap as possible ya know.

That’s going to make for a handy package with a pretty good size pill. For some reason I have always had a negative mind set about 300 or 338 win mags in a shorter barrel.... I bet the critters you may shoot with it won’t know the difference. Looking forward to seeing a finished rifle!

I liked "I have it tuned to a nice unpredictable 3lbs which should be fine for what it is." Looks like a fun build.

Yeah, I am not happy with the trigger at all, but I really dont want to have a bunch of money into it when its all said and done, so I will deal for now.

The barrel should be here mid week. I will hit it with some of the same color I mixed and then start re-assembly. I am going to cross my fingers and pray to the headspace gods that the iron sights time with the headspace. I have a feeling they wont which will lead me down another rabbit hole. Still undecided about which stock to order.

Stock ordered today. Its this one with an adjustable cheek piece. Found it on the Rapid Fire Deals for 145.39 shipped

Also bit the bullet and bought a box of factory 338 Barnes Vortex today.. It hurt at $65 a box, but I needed a round to pull down so I can headspace my new bbl.

Update #3 if anyone is still interested.

I got my new bbl in today. Looks like it has factory installed express sights. If they dont time I have no issue removing them. Hell, I might do it anyways.

This is it mocked up. I had another cerakote project today and this arrived right after I got all my stuff cleaned up, so I will coat it tomorrow and then headspace. Still waiting on my stock. I was hoping to have it by this weekend so I could shoot this hammer, but Boyds still has not sent me a shipping notification.

Kinda second guessing the iron sights. I think they might look goofy in the stock I have en route.

I don’t disagree with that, tape them on so we can see

It’s going to be strange in that stock. Hard to say though until it’s mated together

I think its going to look tarded. When the stock comes in I bet it will take me 30 seconds to take them off, IF they even time correctly.

I think the sights are cool. Keep them if they line up right after you headspace it.

Those old 3 screw triggers can be tuned down to around 2 lbs and be safe. To get any lower you'd have to find a discontinued SSS Competition trigger, for some reason Fred quit making them,I have two of them on older Savage actions and they are sweet triggers.
