I'm not diabetic, but am shedding some pounds. I've cut all deserts and sweets from my diet and for a while all breads and most other carbs. But, I still like to have a few drinks ... not every night and I sometimes go a week or two without anything alcoholic. Since I started this around December 20, I've only had beer once - Michelob Ultra. I've had red wine a number of times and a little whiskey neat.

Anyone else cutting down on sugar and carbs have drink recommendations?

Pretty much your choice of distilled spirits are zero carb it’s anything else you may add to it. Red wine is another good low carb option but you mentioned that already.

Vodka is what I went to.

We did a little ad trade with Deep Eddy a while back, so I have more vodka than I know what to do with. I used to drink vodka sodas. Sounds like I need to give them a try again.

Portions matter. I water down one martini each day. I still weigh the same as when I graduated from college.

Wife drinks Topo Chico, so we got plenty of that around.

The most amazing thing this change in diet has done for me is the 'always hungry' has gone away. I think it has a lot to do with not eating foods with fructose corn syrup. From what I have read, that stuff plays havoc with your brain's hunger triggers.

Yes Bill, exercise is a necessity. I used to ride my mountain bike 5-7 days a week. Recently bought a hybrid and have been biking again.

The wife and I are on the Keto diet...well I didn't give up 2 beers a night so I guess it would be the cheto diet. Dropped 10 pounds since November but pretty much hit a wall. Was hoping for another 4.

I drink bourbon and diet ginger ale. Took a little while to get used to the diet, but it has no sugar and no carbs.

I'm no expert, but I would think if you limited your beers to 2 or 3 nights a week, drank a little more water and a little more exercise, you would get past your wall.

I went on a variation of a Keto diet the end of the first week of Aug and by the 3rd week of Nov I had dropped from 228 lbs down to 177 lbs. Cut out all sugar, starchy foods, nothing fried, no sweets, no fruit or berries or nuts, no alcohol, no soft drinks, no bread, low carb etc. The only thing I drank was water and lots of it. I did not do any exercise to drop the weight either. I weighed about a 10 days ago and was still at 178 lbs after spending 3 weeks in West Texas hunting and eating things I normally ate when eating out or taking to the lease for lunch. Just ate them in moderation. You are only on the actual diet for a few short weeks, so cutting out all the other things was not issue to achieve the goal for me.

Started Atkins January 2 as my New Years Resolution, and have lost 8 pounds in 10 days. Goal is 50-60. Currently 6'1" 255.

I have stopped drinking alcohol completely. Not only because typically alcohol stops the ketosis/fat burning that a low carb diet induces for weight loss, but also because it doesn't do anything for me.

If you enjoy it, a Bacardi and Diet Coke or similar low carb concoction won't drive your carb count crazy.
