My info is about 12 years old now and I know a few things have changed as far as firearm imports (I understand it is now more difficult). The domestic airline was unreliable back then, not sure about now. We ended up having a seven hour ride in a VW van out to the ranch because our flight from BA to Santa Rosa was cancelled.

Even with the initial problems the hunt was fun and successful. We hunted a free range ranch out toward Victorica and there were plenty of stags in the calden forests. I passed quite a few before I took a nice 12 point with great crowns. Also took a couple of wild pigs. The food was good and accommodations were adequate if somewhat dated. All of the staff was very polite and helpful.

One of the things I didn't know about was that they also hunt at night there. I told them I wanted to only hunt without artificial light and they were good with that.

After the hunt we had the long drive back to BA and a smooth check in at the airport. Sometime after arriving home I received an invoice from the export company. I almost fell out of my chair! All I had was a cape and split rack and the amount was $1700.00! I immediately sent an email back telling them to just keep them. I had just paid $1200.00 to export 22 animals from South Africa and I thought the Argentines had made a clerical error on the bill. Nope, they wanted $1700. After telling them to keep it they ended up offering a discount and I ended up paying more than I should have but less than $1700. I don't remember the exact price but I think it was between $1000 and $1200.

I had a good hunt and I'm glad I went but I doubt I ever go back.

I have scoured and scoured online trying to find info but I was able to find very little comparatively considering we live in an Information Age.

Thru my research southern Patagonia has the more scenic country but the bigger free range stags come from La Pampa.

From what outfitters tell me importation if guns is a pain, and it’s better to use their rifles. Most say bringing a bow is no issue.

Heard the same about the airlines. My cousin was dove hunting down there on his honeymoon and the airlines went on strike. Had to take puddle jumpers half way back before finding a commercial flight,

The Argentina Outfitter I use for dove, duck and partridge has contacts for stag hunting. If you’re serious PM me and I’ll get you his contact info. If you go down for a stag hunt you need to build a few days of bird hunting in as well.

How is the dove hunting? I don’t want to shoot 1k of them in a day but 100-200 birds would be nice.

Also, how is hunting the perdiz?

I agree with this. If you are going to stag, definitely add a couple days for dove and perdiz. I'm part owner of a lodge down there, and you should be able to shoot some incredible birds for not too much.

As far as stag hunting goes it can be real hit or miss. I know a decent number of the outfitters, PM me if you've got a couple and I'll help give you some more information.

Went dove hunting with Sier Safaris and they offer stag hunts in combination with Dove and Duck. Wouldn't hesitate to do that. First class outfitter and they have multiple lodges across the country to accommodate your hunt.

My Dad has gone every other year with Estancia Cortaderas for the past 8-9 years (they were at the DSC show this past week) for birds and has hunted stag with them as well. I'm finally going with him this September and cant wait. Marcelo is the contact and per my old man he runs a first class operation.

Our experience was that it was the most challenging of the wing shooting. Like quail hunting in the US, it's dependent on bird numbers and good dogs. Was a nice change to dove and duck hunting since you got some exercise walking the fields.

I don't know if Estancia Carrizal is the ranch he was hunting on but that is the 1st of 2 ranches that SAS books to.

Carrizal is one of the ranches I looked at and I talked to the owner direct as well as his man Paco. I felt very comfortable and confident with both of them.

I ended up booking with another outfit but Carrizal would no doubt give you a great hunt and their free range stags are very nice.

Did that stag come from inside or outside the fence?

I wanted to go last year, but the airline tickets cost quite a bit more than the hunt and a 13 hour layover at Buenos Aries, and fly out again to another location. Even the outfitter could not find any "deals"on airfare, I still would like to go.
