Last night during the storms I had a single GFCI outlet trip that had nothing plugged into it. This morning I realized every outlet in the garage was dead so I went and checked the breakers which were fine. After a while I noticed the GFCI tripped. Two questions, what would cause it to trip with nothing plugged in inside an enclosed garage. Second, I noticed at least one other outlet had a GFCI sticker on it but no reset switch. When I reset the one that tripped all outlets started working again. Are these rigged in parallel off a since switch?

I had to replace all mine in my house, I had about 10 of them would trip randomly. I have high voltage in my house, I replaced them all about 3 years ago, no more tripping. The originals were about 12 years old when I replaced them. I put some in with a little better trip voltage

Yes, they are fed from secondary side of the GFI. The rest of the outlets in the garage? Push the test button. The outlets that don’t have power are fed from that GFCI.

Not uncommon to find them wired like that, and I hate it. Lazy, cheap electricians in my opinion.
A nearby lightning strike will surely have what it takes to trip a GFCI, or destroy one. Is the GFCI needed there? Is there a sink nearby? GFCI ‘s will and do go bad, I replace them with good quality 20amp versions when they go.
The GFCI sticker is supposed to be on all down line plugs that are switched off with the GFCI plug. They never are though.

One of my downstairs outlet in hall bath ran my GFCI in the MasterBath downstairs, when it wouldn't work in my Master I would have to reset it in the hall bath. When my GFCI on the front door didn't work, I would have to reset it from garage GFCI. My kitchen has 3 GFCI and it when it went out I reset the button in the kitchen

I have two downstairs bedrooms, wired to a GFCI in an upstairs bathroom. Is there a way to move that GFCI downstairs?
Thanks Charlie.

Outside front reset in upstairs bath, outside back reset in master bedroom closet and/or garage/ and or master bath. I just replaced all mine with newer versions with LED lights so I can actually see which one tripped.

Typical track homebuilders gfci
One bathroom reset for all baths
One reset for kitchen and back side of bar top if a sink
Garage reset for garage, front back porch. Sprinkler, garage door motor plug, and dedicated freezer are not
Some bath tubs are prewired for a jacuzzi and will have its own.

Thanks Charlie. Well, there’s a way but you don’t wanna know. Once the walls are closed you live with it. If it’s tripping a lot, replace it with a high quality 20 amp version.

When it rains a lot (wind and rain) sometimes one in my bathroom will trip due to an exterior outlet on the same circuit getting too damp.

So could an outlet downstream of the GFCI trip it? And I have a Horton home Gary. That's what they're designed to do... multiple standard outlets, protected by a single GFCI. Any one in the string can trip it. Charlie

Charlie Thanks, more I think about it the Xmas lights were on one of these plugs and the plug on the front porch is as well so it makes sense now why one of these got tripped.

Circuit also feeds the plugs on your front or back porch. One might have gotten some moisture in it.
