I have been shooting hogs with Rusty at Box R Oufitters since 2012. My daughter shot her first 2 hogs there that yearThat is my go to when I want to kill a day kicking up hogs. When I have someone new that wants to go shoot some hogs and they’ve disappeared from the feeders on our lease I take them there. We go to the feeders first thing in the morning and 7 out of 10 times knock down the first one. Then they get skiddish. The next part of the day is spent walking and kicking them out of the brush. Then when it’s time to take a break sit at some of the popular crossing areas. Then back to walking them down. This past weekend I took my son in law. There are so many acorns the hogs didn’t care about feeders. So that left us kicking them up. They held tight. Sometimes we were less than 10 ft from them in the vines and thickets before they broke. Rusty told me we could wait since they were going to be tough to get a shot on. This is a fenced in hunt. I don’t remember how many acres. 3 feeders, 2 ponds and trails all through the thickets and vines. Also there’s part of a dry creek bed they can sneak through also. You start at daylight and end before dark. The loop from the gate around the 3 feeders is a little over half a mile, we have three different routes we take all are about 1 mile. The perimeter of the hog area is about 1.25 miles. We did about 13.5 miles Saturday. We had a great time. This is a good place to go if you have folks popping in or just need to kill a day and don’t have a place to go. He always has a good number of hogs to chase in there and for us it has always been fun. It’s fenced in and we have never had an easy day. The first one or two yes, after that it’s tough. Summer is tough because it’s hot and you can’t see much. They hang in the cool thick stuff. Winter they don’t like being in the open so yet again they are in the thick stuff. Just wanted to put this out there for some who might be looking for this type of thing. 2 hogs per person / $125. This just outside of Cross Plains. My actual hunting area is about 11 miles farther towards rising star.

Awesome you had a good time.

Rusty had to cancel on me for our hunt. Suppose to go 12/28-12/29. Was told a car put a good size hole in his fence and all hogs escaped. Was a hunt for my son as his X-Mas present. He was disappointed but luckily I scraped together another hunt for him in time.

Yes we had the same issue. We were supposed to be there the 26th. My son and son in law were going to go. Unfortunately we could not go while my son was here due to the car through the fence. Rusty let me know when he got back from guiding for muleys. He does that for a couple weeks every December. I have hunted every December except 1 since 2012. He’s even offered to let me cancel before when we’ve had big rain storms. It gets really slick on with red clay wherever there are trails. I know we will be going back hopefully in a few weeks to just have some fun. Depends on how the hogs are on my cameras. What part of Tx would you be traveling from?
