I had tenderloin nachos for dinner tonight. It's classic refried beans on chips, with shredded cheese, topped with jalapeños. Looked great. I topped it with leftover tenderloin fajitas. Delicious but not worth showing. I recently caught a lot of heat for a picture of Popeyes $1 special. How important is presentation to you on an everyday basis? .

I'm 100% taste and smell. If it's good I don't care if it is not properly plated.

For me it is just more about taste, when cooking for others I will try to make it taste good and look good.

You eat with your eyes. It’s your first sense when eating before your nose smells it or your taste buds taste it. Presentation is important to me. When I have people over I plate all the plates so they’re to my standards.

You do eat with your eyes but presentation is not something I really have to pay attention to. If friends come to my house I try to put out the best product I can and enjoy a good meal.

I couldn’t care less about how it’s plated or what it even looks like as long as it tastes good and there’s enough to fill me up, I’m good.

We usually eat on paper plates or bowls. It’s about good food for us, not presentation. Even with a special holiday meal, we make the table look good with the food feast, but it’s self serve from there.

not in the least - all I care about is how it tastes. I'll grill something for dinner and the wife will get out nice plates; I'll put my nice plate away and grab a paper plate. Function over form or something like that.....

If I'm going to take a pic to share I try to make it look presentable. I'm not a proponent of pretty food though I just try not to make it look like a mess. I'm not a restaurant and I'm not on food network.

If I have to chose one over the other it will be taste. I have to agree that if it looks good and smells good then I start with its going to be good before I ever taste it. However is it has a terrible taste, there is no amount of presentation or smell that can overcome it.

My dinner last night didn't look purdy, but in my defense the plating was influenced by a bottle of wine my wife had one taste of and said was too dry for her

If you mean the plate arrangement, then so a small degree but it isnt all that important to me. But, if you mean the food itself then yes. If I have a choice of two slices of brisket, both of equal good taste, I'll choose the smoke ring chunk every day over the piece that looks like a over baked piece of limp liver

I can guarantee you if you are served what looks like a steaming pile of dog chit on a plate you're probably not going to want to try it. It could have been the best tasting thing your taste buds had ever tried, but because of the way it looked you decided not to try it. That is eating with your eyes.

Presentation isn't my number 1 but I do appreciate it and I try my best when cooking for others which almost every night now.

You buy groceries with your eyes too. That's why we buy all of those yellow bananas instead of the real tasty ones that look slightly rotten.

I think Robert Yuras started al of that. Ha! Plating is important to me. Hearing someone say "it looks amazing" when you set the plate in front of them is very validating, but also starts an internal expectation in their head thats saying "this will taste as good as it looks"

He had some of the presentations I've ever seen.
